How do I disable geofencing for hot water using Tado X?

I have a system boiler which means I have a hot water tank. The water needs to be heated periodically to ensure Legionnaires disease does not grow in the tank. When Tado X is in Away mode the hot water can only be set to on or off, there is no schedule.
I am about to go away for a month in the middle of winter and in Away mode I can leave the hot water turned off and risk legionnaires disease developing or leave the hot water turned on all the time and get a huge gas bill. Neither of these options is desirable.

I could leave Tado in Home mode while I am away so the hot water follows the schedule but I would then need to reset all the room schedules and lose all my settings so that I dont get a huge gas bill.

I thought this was supposed to be a smart system? The geofencing/away functions are totally useless. I need the hot water to follow a schedule when I am away.

Am I missing something? The forums mention advanced options, switching between multiple schedules and disabling geofencing for scheduled time blocks, but they all seem to be v3 features that don’t exist on the ‘more advanced’ Tado X.

  • I just did a test.

In the 'home'settings for hot water I edited an 'on' block and in advanced settings turned geofencing control off. This time block was to start in a few minutes. In geofencing I did a manual change to 'away'. The rooms went off but the hot water came on at the required time.

I don't like the way Geofencing works with respect to 'Auto' operation as it assumes 'home' far too late. I require 'home' to begin about an hour's journey time away which in town would beabout 30 miles. I think that the maximun you can set is 3,000 metres.

So I just set it to 'away' when I am leaving home for a while and turn it back to 'home' when I am about an hour from arriving.

I hope this is of some help, Chris

  • Sorry, my system is V3 not X.
