Help Needed: Tado X Smart Thermostat and Tado X TRVs with Ideal Logic ESP1 35 Boiler (2 Zones)
I’m having trouble setting up my Tado X thermostat and TRVs with my Ideal Logic Combi ESP1 35 boiler. Previously had x2 ESI ESRTP6 thermostats for each zone. I have used the Tado v3+ kit before and it worked perfectly however that setup my plumber joined both zones into a single zone and I can't remember how he wired that up on the Tado thermostat side.
Here’s my setup and what I’ve tried so far:
Setup Details:
1. 2 zones in the house, each with a motorised zone valve (ESI branded) controlled by its own thermostat.
2. I’ve installed Tado X thermostats to control these zones.
3. Tado x TRVs are installed on most radiators and are paired with the correct thermostat in the Tado app.
The Problem:
• When I turn up a SRT in a single radiator (e.g., in a bedroom) OR even the main wall thermostat in either zone, the radiator doesn’t heat up.
• It seems the zone valve for that zone isn’t opening, meaning no hot water reaches the radiator.
• If I manually open the zone valve, the radiator works fine, so the TRV itself is working.
• If I turn off the heating on the app, then I do think it turns off the heating.
What I’ve Tried:
1. Ensured SRTs are assigned to the correct thermostats in the Tado app.
2. Verified that the Tado thermostats are set to control the zone valves.
3. Checked boiler settings to ensure it’s responding to heat requests.
4. Manually opened the zone valves to test radiator heating, and they heat up properly when open.
Questions:
1. Should the zone valves stay permanently open for Tado TRVs to work correctly, or can the thermostats manage them?
2. Do I need to adjust wiring or boiler settings to make the zone valves open when a TRV requests heat?
3. Has anyone set up a similar system and can guide me on Tado configurations for this type of setup?
Pictures in the first response.

Tado X thermostat wiring for zone 1 (done the same for the zone 2):
Boiler wiring, not been modified. OpenTherm wire was to try get OpenTherm working for previous v3+ setup but failed so it's just there doing nothing at the moment:
Original ESI wiring junction of a 2-zone system, not been modified for Tado:

Morning Yodi,
I have the same boiler with two ESI ESRTP6 thermostats. I just purchased the wired Tado X and wondered if you have managed to get this working, as setup indicates incompatibility with the ESI ESRTP6.

Hello MadG79, yes I did although the Tado TRVs have been a bit finicky when requesting for heat which I need to get sorted with Tado support, that's a separate issue (could be my zone valves are faulty). This is how I wired both thermostats.
Ignore any installation setup guides from Tado app as you said it's incompatible according to Tado. Corresponding wiring from the ESI thermostat to Tado below. Use the last pic in my original post pic as a reference to existing ESI thermostat wiring.
Brown wire in 5v = NC in Tado
Grey wire in 0v = COM in Tado
Black wire in RH = NO in Tado
EDIT: I just had a look at my posts and realised I already mentioned this worked but not 100%. It's better than having a Tado system that doesn't work at all. I saw on reddit someone said they had Tado support change configuration of the user's TRVs on their side and worked but think that was Tado V3 kit, however I'd assume the config is very similar to Tado X. This is my next step to speak to support team on the chat option.
Let me know if that worked!
