Tado X support for hot water?

I currently have a Nest controlling the radiators and hot water, and a Drayton programmer controlling 3 zones of underfloor heating. Both demand from the gas boiler independently. I think I’ve worked out that the V3+ supports this configuration with a wireless receiver and 3 wired thermostats. But am I right in thinking this isn’t currently supported by the X system?
If not, is there some update expected in the future to include hot water?

    Hello @andydinger

You can find information about this topic here.

Assuming you are in the UK and you have a system boiler, you could programme hot water schedules using Wireless Smart Thermostat X - Starter Kit ( the one incl. Programmer with Hot Water Control and OpenTherm). So although you can't control hot water on the Smart Thermostat X directly, you CAN control hot water directly on the UK version of the Wireless Receiver X. We don't sell this device individually, but only as a part of the Wireless Smart Thermostat X - Starter Kit.

@andydinger yes, you'll have to wait a few more weeks until it is available in the UK.

  • Thanks for your reply. I’d missed that particular page in all my various searches. But I guess I’ll have to wait until the X System appears in the UK shop as the version of starter kit you mentioned does not appear in the EU shop.
  • When is the X system going to be available in the UK please?

In a few weeks, probably before December.

  • I have a vaillant with ebus vaillant thermostat where I can setup separately heating schedules and hot water schedules — it doesn’t do on demand hot water except when setting hot water schedule to 24/7 heating which isn’t economical. How Tado x will manage hot water boiling, with RT on/off or OpenTherm if using VR33 extension card?
  • Hi, is there any update on the water heater schedule?

Just installed the Tado system, but i'm missing the option to schedule the water heater :(

  • Hello @Shy__Steve

as tado° X is now available in the UK. If you have a system boiler, the answer I provided above is still valid.

  • Hi @Emcee , thanks for your response

I'm based in Belgium, so i presume the above is not really an option?

  • @Shy__Steve

Ah sorry, I just assume everyone on this part of the forum is British. My mistake.

In continental Europe, the device that controls the hot water is called Receiver (as opposed to Programmer in Britain). As far as I can see in your Backend, you don't have a Receiver. This will make controlling hot water difficult.

To make your X set-up able to control hot water, you would need have an OpenTherm boiler with Receiver. This is information you can find in this article.

    @Emcee

Thanks again for the feedback. However, i am actually able to control the hot water. I can perfectly set the temperature (starting at 40C, going to whatever i set the max on my actual boiler (when i change it, i see the max temp changing in the app)). It's all hooked up via opentherm.

The fact that i can change the temperature, and it actually responds by heating up the water, makes me wonder why i cannot put it in a schedule.

When sniffing the api calls from the my.tado.com, i found the call: https://hops.tado.com/homes/«myhomeid»/programmer/domesticHotWater/manualControl?ngsw-bypass=true which i was able to change using the correct payload. However, i cannot change it to anything lower than 40C, as it will always go back to 40C
