Compatiblity

I am currently using a tado° X system with multiple smart radiator thermostats, a bridge, and other components. Unfortunately, my existing boiler does not integrate well with this setup, so I am considering replacing it.

My priority is ensuring that the new boiler is fully compatible with the tado° system and can utilize its digital modulation (OpenTherm) function. However, the compatibility guide I found appears somewhat outdated (last updated April 1, 2024) and does not list all models.

Specifically, I would like to confirm whether the following boilers can use tado° X 's digital control (modulation) via OpenTherm:

  1. Viessmann Vitodens 100-W B1HF 32 kW (Z020621)
    • Is this model natively compatible with tado° X's OpenTherm function, or would I need the Viessmann OpenTherm Input Module 0–10V to enable modulation?
  2. Vaillant ecoTEC plus IoniDetect VU 30 CS/1-5 (N-INT2)
    • Can this boiler support OpenTherm modulation with tado° X directly, or is the Vaillant VR 33 module necessary for compatibility?

I want to ensure seamless communication between the boiler and the tado° X system for efficient and reliable heating. Any additional insights or advice regarding compatibility or setup would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

I got the official answer( they were really quick), which I share below:

The first model, Viessmann Vitodens 100-W B1HF 32 kW, is quite specific. It's stated as compatible but there is a possibility that it won't work when connected via OpenTherm.

If the boiler displays an error when tado° is connected to it, rewiring to relay will be needed.

The second model, Vaillant ecoTEC plus IoniDetect VU 30 CS/1-5, is compatible, but it can work via OpenTherm only with the Vaillant VR 33 translation module. If you decide to take this option, it's recommended that a professional installer installs this for you, since tado° doesn't provide instructions on how to connect a translation module.

I recently had the same issue when replacing my old boiler. I asked the installer to fit a boiler compatible with Opentherm. After he did some research he came back with the Baxi 800 series. I can't remember exactly but I'm sure he did mention the makes you have listed and the fact that you need to purchase additional modules. He reckoned they were nudging cusomers towards getting the manufacturers' own control systems. I went with the Baxi 820 and it works perfectly with Tado and Opentherm out of the box.

My boiler is a Baxi 830, and has been working well connected via OpenTherm without an adapter

Yes, mine is also an 830 combi, my mistake.
