Start with the basics. Give us the following:
- The precise make and model of the boiler.
- That red covered area - is that a hot water tank? If so:
- Is there a hot water thermostat rigged on its surface? Not the heating element thats in the top, but somewhere lower down, held on by a band, which measures the temperature of the tank.
- The thermostat for heating. What make and model is it? Take a photo with the cover off and post it here. We need to see the wiring.
- The pump. Would you trace the pipes. At one end it should go to a valve (usually a motorised valve). It will look either like this 3 Port Valve or like this: Two port valve.
- We need to know which type. If it is a three port valve, one of its pipes will head towards that hot water tank.
- If it is a two port valve, double check and make sure you dont have two of them.
- This site Central Heating Controls and Zoning - DIYWiki - see if that helps you identify the type of heating arrangement you have. Most likely it will be an S PLAN, a Y PLAN, or a C Plan. The latter two tend to be found in systems that are over 30 years old.
- The programmer in the house. What make and model is it?
Come back with whatever you can gather and we'll think with you.
