I’ve had the Tado Wireless Smart Thermostat Starter Kit V3+ (OpenTherm) - for Combi Boilers fitted to my Worcester boiler but it only works when the old thermostat is also running. If I take the batteries out of the old digistat thermostat Tado does nothing.

I asked the pro boiler fitter who did the work about this and he’s advised that he will need to install a facia blanking plate to be able to fully disconnect the facia-mounted wireless thermostat on the Worcester Bosch boiler.

Does this sound right?

Hi. Sorry only just got around to this.

A few things arent clear to me.

1. What exact model of boiler is this? Have searched and cannot find the one which operates with Opentherm in default mode.
2. Hence you've either installed an EMS-BUS to Opentherm converter or I've misunderstood how this system was wired. Please clarify.
3. The V3 series is directly capable of handling the EMS-BUS. However the X series doesnt handle that protocol.

It is true that a fewthe CDi boilers often need to have their internal controller ribbon removed to enable the EMS BUS to operate correctly. In removing that ribbon the fascia mounted device will no longer have control, but it is important to get the wiring restored as required in the installation guide.
