Smart Radiator Thermostat V3+ and Wireless Temperature Sensor

Hi all,

i would like to install a smart radiator thermostat V3 plus a wireless temperature sensor. I already have the bridge. In the same room I want to install this, I have a wireless receiver. The question is the following. The thermostat can connect to the temp sensor even if there is in the same room the receiver? Can this be a problem? Thanks.

  • My experience (3 bed detached house), with wireless thermostat/receiver in hallway and smart rad valve in living room is that both or either can cause the heating to come on! giving me less control than I had with regular TRV's. Is this a common situation?

Should not be a problem having both sensors this close. However why aren't you using a Smart rad stat in the other rooms?
  • Hi policywonk.

Thanks for your answer. I did not catch you question…

At the moment I have just a temp sensor in the coldest bed room and the receiver in teh living room. When the heating come on, because the temp (in the bed room) goes down, I have no problem in the othe rooms of the house with the exception of the living room (too worm) in wich I want to install the smart rad stat and of course also the second temp sensor to manage the living room temp separatly of the rest of the house. My doubt coming out becouse in the living room I have also the receiver controlled by the smart sensor in the coldest room.

    Thanks.

    Hi. My bad.

In the old days we all used to have one or two thermostats on a wall, driving heating for the entire house. It is possible that one of those thermostats, especially when it is wired, is set up to trigger not just the boiler, but a flow valve near the pump which opens up when there is a call for CH heat.

    I should break this down.

    1. Can you confirm that all your wall thermostats are not wired? If they are wired they really are called thermostats (which means that a valve near the boiler is also controlled by its wires). If one is wired, that means it probably controls at least all radiators in that floor.
    2. If you sure that none are wired, then Tado calls them Smart Sensors. Now if one of these shares the same room as the rads that have TRVs, you have two options:
      1. Dismount that sensor from the app completely and either keep it for another day or sell it on Ebay, or something like that. It reduces confusion.
      2. Or if you want to standardise the flow in that room, you can assign that Smart Sensor to be the master in that room, placing it and the other smart TRVs in the same room. Then make that the wall sensor is assigned as the zone controller for all the rads in the room.
      3. Look at this link: My Smart Thermostat is not shown as a Zone Controller. What can I do? | Help Center for tado° V3+ and earlier devices.
    3. Technically the wireless receiver is the final zone controller for them all.

Hope that answers your questions. Now, that aside:

Have you gone through the trouble of balancing the radiators in your house so that they warm at the same rate? This way you wont have to face a cold room at one end and a warm room at another. This is a good video on how to fix that. How to Balance a Heating System - Leeds Plumber - YouTube
