Tado X via Matter - system topology differs between Tado app and Matter controllers

Hi!
I installed Tado X devices recently and noticed one fundamental flaw.
In Tado app the topology follows the former "room" concept. There are 2 significant downgrades however in comparison to the legacy systems:
- it is not possible to set which device is used to measure room temperature (in the past it was possible to select any device in the room - not it defaults to the temperature sensor, if present, or a random radiator thermostat, if more than one).
- it is not possoble to have more than one temperature sensors (or wired thermostat and temperature sensor[s]) in the same room.

However when exposed to Matter controllers, each device is treated individually.
The major issue is that Wireless Temperature Sensors are exposed as... sensors - and therefore "read only" devices. It makes Tado X useless for setups where there is more than one Smart Radiator Thermostat (whilst all TRVs will "sync", the temperature measurement will be taken from the device originally selected to call for heat). It is also pointless for situations where due to the awkward positioning of the TRV, the Temperature Sensor must be used, as the device cannot be controlled via Matter.

I tried to seek assistance from the Support but the answers so far weren't helpful. It is a major blow to everyone who wanted to upgrade the legacy systems.

  • Hello!

I’m curious in upgrading. Has this been fixed

I have 2 rooms where I have two TRV and one room where I have a thermostat and a wireless sensor.

If what you observe is right, TadoX will royally not be functioning well for my system.

Based on what you wrote, in X I cannot have two TRV in the same room or am I misunderstanding something?
  • I think I understand more now what you wrote elsewhere.

The difference is that you can do multiple TRV/sensors within the Tado app but not with Matter. But what do you mean via Matter? What are you using?

You can still have multiple TRVs via Matter, but unlike the legacy systems where you selected which device measures the temperature for the room, in Tado X each device works independently in Matter scenario. In the app, the Wireless Sensor or Thermostat will be automatically used as a device that reports temperature for the room. As Tado said, with the newly manufactured temperature sensors, they will be exposed to Matter as thermostats (rather than sensors) so that's basically the solution for the problem.

In your case though- where you have a room with wired thermostat and wireless sensor I don't think X allows it - you can have multiple TRVs but only one of Thermostat or Wireless sensor.
  • Does it mean that I can have this cofiguration with Tado X?:

    • 2 TRV
    • one wireless sensor (this is the one which control the temperature in the app)

Is this correct? in the V3 sytem I have in this way, the wireless sensor manages the temperature of the room.

PS: my system is central heating without a thermostat at home

Yes, you can. After you set it up in the app then you only expose the sensor to other Matter controlers (e.g. you don't expose the individual TRVs). Just make sure you get the temperature sensor from the new batch - that is exposed as thermostat in Matter ecosystem.
  • thanks a lot.

I will buy from tado, then I am expecting to receive the new batch…

Apparently everything manufactured after August is the "new" one - but I am sure that the support would be willing to exchange them.
  • How do I know if I have a new one? I purchased it recently, but it is not being exposed as a thermostat through Matter. Does that mean that it is an old one? Or do the new ones still need a firmware upgrade?

Then probably it's an old one. Best if someone from Tado confirms. From what I previously understood the OTA upgrade won't fix it.
  • I bought my wireless sensor last week, but I am facing the same issue. What your saying here is basically that you believe this is a hardware issue? In that case I'll get in touch with support.

That's correct. You should ask them to assist you.
