Wifi geofencing
I know it would limit app to on and off rather than vicinity check but there is few benefits for me from GPS geofencing as home members keep turning GPS off to save battery life thus geofencing do not work as it should and it's most time in manual mode.

This would be a very desirable alternative to the always-on location services that Tado requires today. As the OP says, nobody in my household is happy about leaving location services on al the time (for battery life or privacy).
The code has already been written (the "Home Wifi Detection" option in Geofencing settings), it just needs to be selectable without requiring always-on location services. Indeed, one should able to enable "Include Device's Location" using at least one of always-on location services and Home Wifi Detection.
For those of us who would rather not be beaconing our location 24-hours a day, this would useful and accurate:
IF attached to home network THEN home ELSE away
Please consider this feature.

totally agree! geofencing is nothing more than being at home or not

Hello,
I am a new Tado user. This functionality will be great adding a timer or something to prevent boiler to start and stop in case of fast goings and comings. Thanks !

Yessss!!!!
Very much this please. I want to use the geofencing feature so that my heating only works when one of us is at home. This was one of my main points for buying a smart thermostat. But the GPS must is a no go for me. It drains my battery too fast.
I understand that this would lead to my heating just starting when I’m at home, but that’s absolutely okay for me. If the GPS is optional other users can still activate it for a better pre-heating experience.
I can’t imagine that this is such a difficult feature to implement.
Right now, I can’t recommend Tado to friends and family because of this. It just leaves money on the side. Too bad, as I really like it but have to argue for this against the rest of the family (mainly my wife) who doesn’t want these smart features.0 -
It is not just home or not home. It is the far away, further away, near and home. If we leave the country, tado sets it to the lowest temp. If we just walk to the supermarket, it drops it a bit (we could be home within 5 minutes and it would take too long to heat from the lowest temp). That's why GPS is used for this.
I never had any issues with GPS and battery tbh, how old is that? Don't know anyone that toggles GPS but that is just my bubble I guess ;)

Can’t say I’ve ever noticed any battery drain from having Tado geofencing turned on.
Had you tried turning location services off for the Tado app? It might then only consider your wifi connection.
Also, (on the iphone anyway) geofencing with Tado still works even if background app refresh is disabled so try turning that off to save battery.
Geofencing used to be a lot more with “preheat” than simply home / not home. Not sure why Tado thought it would be a good idea to remove their USP from the latest hardware Tado X.0
