- Steps to take:
- Kill the power to the boiler and the thermostat.
- Take photos of all the wiring for the four-pair chocolate strip and where the thermostat is arranged.
- On the four-paired chocolate strip, look for the wired pair: black next to violet. Do not touch the other pair. Take a photo.
- You'll see a small wired bridge on the opposite poles of that pair, essentially connecting the black node to the purple node.
- Remove that bridge. Take a photo.
- Locate the wires which come from your thermostast.
- Label them as they were originally set in your thermostat. Take a photo.
- Move the wires off that point, onto where the bridge was fitted - and only wire in two wires.
- The one which faces the black wire should be named Opentherm-. The one which faces the violet wire should be named Opentherm +.
- Replace the labels.
- Take a photo.
- Go back to the old thermostat, remove the front. Take a photo.
- Check that it is all dead.
- Remove the backplate.
- Identify whichis now the corresponding Opentherm+, and Opentherm -.
- Label them. Wire them in. Take a photo.
- Follow Tado instructions to fit.
- Power up and test.
- Come back if there are problems. Use the the photos to go backwards if you need.

What's the make and model? To post pics one needs to be on a laptop or desktop. Mobile phone browsers seem to be crippled when they engage this forum and can't upload pics. Laptop browsers- no problem.0

It's an ideal exclusive 2 and that will explain why I cant upload them0

This link
https://media.wickes.co.uk/is/content/wickes/GPID_5000150461_TECH_0. - had the installation instructions.
Page 33 gives the wiring for you to trace on the main pcb. Hope this reduces confusion, although am not sure. This boiler uses Opentherm and can be digitally controlled.
That diagram says that you have two chocolate strips. One has 4 pairs of screws, one has 7 pairs. Can you distinguish them? The one with four pairs is the one you need to focus on.
Now look for these colours on the chocolate strip. It's a specific sequence:
* black
* violet
* black
* grey.
The pair which are black and violet, right next to each other, should only be used for Opentherm, ie digital controls.
Do you know how to wire the Tado thermostat to the two Opentherm pins on the chocolate strip? Have tado given you instructions?
Now, do you have enough, or need more help?1 -
That's very helpful and yes I do have 2 chocolate strips in mine, the only instructions I got were the professional ones which make no sense to me! Is it easy to wire it in? I don't get what the different types are as in potential free and switched live... sorry to be a pain.0
