Why is my Smart Thermostat battery life now two weeks?

I changed the three AAA batteries in my wall mounted Smart Thermostat two weeks ago and they're already flat. I checked the Duracell batteries before inserting them and they were showing as full on the side strip. Not rechargeables.

    @JoshT If this happens for 2 sets of batteries, feel free to contact us with some pictures of the batteries you used. It is very rare, but it might be that your device has developed a hardware fault.

    This happened to me (my wall mounted thermostat drains a brand new set of batteries within days) and the best I got from tado support was an offer to purchase a brand new replacement for 30% off. Hilariously this was while a 33% sale was going on on the website! Pretty poor showing from tado. If you're coming across this I'd recommend looking for alternatives to tado that support the matter protocol.
