Is a Smart thermostat needed
Hi guys,
I've got a Tado starter kit and plan to add all radiators to have smart valves, 10 in total. I'm trying to work out what benefit the Smart thermostat brings if all rooms had a smart radiator valve. It would be mounted in the kitchen which is the most used room, so possibly easier to knock the temp up in that room alone, but i cannot see what other benefit it brings. Considering selling the thermostat to help fund the 8 more radiator valves i need to buy!
I'm correct in thinking that the smarts rad valves can speak directly to the combi boiler using the bridge and extension aren't I?
Happy to keep it if I need it but seems pointless having with the radiators being controlled individually.
Thanks for the advice

@SteveH On my system it is certainly the boiler-controlling tado wall stat (for this post call it BCTS) which receives the info from the tado TRVs. tado systems work in 2 basic modes viz. the BCTS needs to be calling for heat in order for TRVs to get what they are asking for OR all tado devices have primacy for heat regardless of the BCTS position. Support can alter this to your wishes.
The reason many users use additional tado wall stats is that some people report inaccurate measurement of temperature by the TRVs whereas the wall stats appear spot on. My advice would be to retain (I think you have to) the BCTS as you might require it in a room where more accurate temp control is needed.

Hello SteveH,
Without the Smart Thermostat you can't control the boiler. The Smart Radiator Thermostats can't speak to the boiler, so if you want to control the boiler with the tado system you'd need the Smart Thermostat.
(In addition it will also double its role as temperature control for the room it is set in).
Best regards,
Germán

Why can’t we control the boiler and have 25 rooms? Will there be an update to do so? Or maybe 20 rooms. Now, if I use a Thermostat I loose 15 out 25 rooms to control, could that be less?
