Extension kit led blinking 4 times

Our Extension Kit is not turning on the hot water, The LED blkinks 4 times, then pauses before blinking 4 times again. This cycle repeats. Resetting Extension kit does not resolve the problem, neither does resetting the thermostat. Please help - we have no hot water!

  • Probably not a good idea to reset the extension kit as it will need to be reconfigured for your system type and will most likely involve intervention from tado. Did you not try contacting them first before resetting?

    In the meantime have you put your immersion heater on which will provide emergency hot water.

  • Yes, we used the immersion heater while the system was not working. Instruction to reset the extension kit are on the support page, and no warnings of any problems doing this. Managed to get a Tado support person on the chat support line to investigate the problem for me. They escalated it to technical and they did something remotely to get us working again.

  • Hi,

    Resetting the Extension Kit (pressing and holding the button for 10 seconds) won't cause it to lose the configuration, so it is always a safe thing to test if it helps. Same goes for the Smart Thermostat.

  • Thanks Frank - I did reset the extension kit a few times, but couldn't get it to enter the Mode where you can manually turn the hot water on or off... Resetting just resulted in 4 blinks cycle every time (even after leaving for a long time). Never mind - you guys managed to fix it for me remotely! 🤗

    led is blinking four time. Pause and again.


    heating is permanently on and no hot water

  • Hi Ben - the guys at Tado fixed my extension kit problem remotely for me - I don't know what they did, but as you can see from this thread, it started working properly again. Try contacting Frank directly...

  • How did you get this resolved? I’ve tried contacting tado with no luck. I’m installing for an elderly customer and it’s starting to get cold!
  • They connected to the kit remotely via the internet and did something to get it working - sorry I can't be more helpful. Very surprised that you are not getting any help - I found Tado to be really good when I had my problem...

    Here's the advice I received from Tado:

    Here is what to do if you ever see this again: I suggest that you reset the extension kit first: https://support.tado.com/en/articles/3453117

    Wait about 5 minutes to see if the fading light is back again: https://support.tado.com/en/articles/3458303

    If that still does not bring the system back online then it is worth resetting the bridge:

    To perform a bridge reset, unplug the bridge power cable only, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in again. Wait 5 minutes, check the extension kit and app, repeat if required, always give a few minutes in between reset and checking the system.

  • Guys I have exactly the same problem, 4 flashes on extension unit, except my heating is permanently off. I’ve tried contacting Tado multiple time’s with no joy over last couple of days. Have tried everything suggested in the thread above but nothing is working - any other ideas? Anyone from Tado on here that could respond to my service requests?
  • Same here. I'm done with the installation and all devices seems to be operational in the app. However, the extension kit blinks 4 times repeatetly and no heating in the house. I've tried resetting a few times, but no update ore anything is triggered.

    Does anyone already knows what to do?

  • I now have this after a new installation today. I presume that this is why I have no heating?

    Does this also prevent the manual override of forcing the heating on and off?
