Replacing the wiring on the v3+ EU starter kit with 5-core cable
Hi. About to install the EU starter kit into my Worcester Bosch 42Cdi Combi. The receiver comes with a pre-wired supply cable with live & neutral. The other cable included consists of a black, grey and orange wire.
I assumed I could remove the power cable from the receiver and use a 5-core 3095Y cable to do everything between the receiver and the boiler. 2 questions:
- The 5-core cable has an earth. Can I just park these at both ends or put them into a wago?
- The 5-core doesn't have an orange wire. I suspect this wire won't be needed either but I wanted to double-check before I started the installation.
Any help would be gratefully received.

You can certainly wire it up with that. I’d just snip the earth back, as it’s not in use either end.
The orange is just a convention for the switched live to the boiler, but in the five core cables some like the grey, some the black. I like to be kind and stick a bit of sleeving to show it’s some kind of live.

@gilliescolin Hello.
- Safely terminate every wire. Parking Earth on a fixed terminal is best.
- Multi-core or non-standard colours, use appropriate coloured sleeving to identify wires that are Live Neutral and Earth. Brown, Blue, Green/Yellow. Identify the wires at both ends.
- If in any doubt, engage a suitably qualified professional.

thanks. Turns out that even getting into the wiring panel of the boiler is beyond my capabilities! I thought it would be unclipping a cover but it looks like I’ll need to remove other cables to get to the multiple screws and I’m not confident about what they do. I’m sure once inside I’d be fine but I’m going to be safe and get an electrician involved.
