Tado X alongside Tado V3+
Hi all
I might have missed a post on this - I have an existing V3+ setup which is working fine, and I'd like to try Tado X. I don't want to move everything over given it's the middle of winter and everything is working fine, but I would like to try a couple of Tado X TRVs in places where V3 doesn't work due to range issue.
If I setup a new account on another device (say an iPad rather than my phone) and pair the Tado X devices with that, is that going to cause any problems with the existing V3 setup?
The app will be on different accounts on different devices, but everything will be on the same WiFi network. I guess I could setup another network, but then it starts to feel like a bit too much of a faff!

@jasonm Hello. Tado X has pros and cons for users. If V3+ is working for you, I’d suggest sticking with your present setup for reliability over the winter.
If you try X, you’ll need a Tado device (or Apple) for the Thread network connection. Other Thread devices, eg Google, don’t support NAT64. Best to read up the X help pages on the Tado web site. It’s unclear to me how your X and V3+ devices will interact with your heating zone control?

Thanks @wateroakley for the note, that's a helpful perspective. I don't need the new TRVs to interact with the heating zone control as I am happy to leave that side of things to the V3+ devices - basically I would like to replace a couple of regular TRVs with Smart TRVs to have more control, but don't really want/need them to interact with the rest of the system.
I might have to accept that leaving the regular TRVs in place until I upgrade everything is the easiest thing to do! I actually get on very well with the V3+ setup aside from the range issue which is much more limiting in my experience than Tado suggest.

@jasonm If this is to replace a couple of dumb TRVs on rads that have range issues with V3+ …
In principle, perhaps you could add your X 'starter' kit (with a Thread border router), X TRVs, and a seperate account? Configure the X TRVs as 'Independent' in the App settings. They won't 'call for heat' but will be 'smarter' than the dumb TRVs.
We have one rad, in the conservatory, that is outside V3+ range. You've got me thinking if I can use the Apple TV box as the Thread Border Router and an X TRV?
