Non Tado connected radiators are always on.

Hello All,

Firstly, the setup I have is: 8 Smart Radiator Thermostat X, one Wireless Temp Sensor, and a Programmer connected to my Combi Boiler Logic Max C35 via OpenTherm.

Now, in the app, my Hot Water setting and the Flow Temp Optimization is usually set to 60 Degrees, but I have tried to set it to 40 degrees in hopes it fixes my problem, which it doesn't.

The problem I currently have is, I have 3 radiators in the house that are not connected to the Tado system are constantly on 24/7 it seems. I check at 3am one night and all three radiators were on. So, it seems like the boiler is constantly on.

Before, I could have the radiators open at the valve, and it wasn't until I set the temperature on the thermostat that it all started to kick in. I could manually close those radiators but that kinder defeats the point of this smart system. I have also notice at night that the boiler clicks on a lot more than it used to, as it is directly below my bedroom.

It doesn't seem very efficient to have it setup this way and suspect it will start costing me more, which again, defeats the point of this smart system.

  1. Is there a way to schedule that the boiler just doesn't turn on between 10pm and 6am as it just doesn't need to be on?
  2. Is there anything I am doing wrong on my end such as settings?

  • What temperatures have you set in your daily schedules, especially the overnight temperatures? Have you looked at the heating graphs in the app to see if you can identify which devices are calling for heat and therefore firing the boiler? If you don't want the boiler to fire during the night just set a low enough temperature or even frost protection during these hours.

  • For all my schedules, they are turned off from 8pm to 6am. And when I went around at 3 am to check, all radiators connected to the Tado valves were off. It was only the 3 radiators that are not connected with a valve that were on.

Which is why I suspect that is it the programmer and boiler trying to keep the flow temp up as it turns on the boiler periodically overnight.

Is your hot water set to be on overnight?

  • You can only set DHW temperature with a combi boiler over Opentherm. The hot water is always available on demand, there is no schedule.

  • And that's my point. The non Tado connect radiators are always on.

Before, it didn't matter is the radiator valves were open, the radiators would only turn on when I turned the heat up on the thermostat.
