Getting rid of Tado

Hi Guys,

After having weeks of issues in trying to get my Tado to work I am thinking of leaving all together and switching to a different smart thermostat.

My question is as I could never get my app & thermostat to actually work after my boiler decided to stop responding to it, do I literally just delete my account on the app and unplug the internet bridge? Is that all I need to do to allow my new thermostat to work?

It's now getting really cold, we have no heating and I can't get any answers from Tado as to why my heating isn't working (boiler is fine we have had a plumber out)

I just need to know that if I invest in a different provider it's as easy as unplugging my current Tado?

Thanks

  • I feel your pain.

I almost gave up on Tado. I even got as far as agreeing a return with Amazon for over £900 of product!

But I ended up giving it one last go by removing every device via the app and starting entirely from scratch with a new email address. I added everything back in starting with the wired thermostat.

Since then, touch wood, everything has worked, apart from it largely ignoring the temperature set on the TRV or its associated thermostat, but that seems to be something that happens once a week and I'm convinced its some sort of AI thing they have bunged in there that doesn't really work.

If you are keen to remove everything, we would need a bit more info. You say "to allow my new thermostat to work." I'm a bit worried you've had a new wall thermostat fitted already, but it's still not working. So rather than pluck at straws, can you outline what is currently installed and what you might have waiting to be fitted etc?

Hello @Louise_Allen24 Sorry to hear you have been having problems with your Tado heating controls. If you can explain the problems, there are some experienced users here who can help you to figure out what is going on.

    • Is this a new install or replacing older controls?
    • What are the symptoms?

Can you can describe your heating system:

    • Boiler make/model, combi or system?
    • Does the heating have Zone valves, S-plan of Y-plan?
    • The Tado components (wired or wireless starter klt, TRVs)
    • How is the internet dongle connecteed to your broadband?.
    • Posting pictures inclusing e.g. the wiring can help (easiest from a web browser).

    HTH

    Hi Louise,
Sorry to hear your trouble. I have had Tado just over a week and touch wood it is working well. I had an electrician experienced with smart controls install the wireless thermostat kit. He made sure to check it was talking to the boiler etc.. and worked in the App. I know tado say it can be a DIY job, but I wanted someone who had fitted them before.
I installed the TRV valves myself. I have a year old ideal logic system boiler.
Perhaps some of the others here can help you. Could it be a matter of resetting as you mention ? Or could it be an issue with your Internet connection. ?
There have been a few lags with mine and I am going to get a WiFi booster for the back of the house where the boiler is.
  • Hi All, thank you for your replies!

I moved into my property Feb 2023, Tado had already been installed & linked to the 3 year old Veissmann combi boiler. We never downloaded the app as the previous owners never really left an explanation on how to use it and with the chaos of moving we didn't really think about asking questions as we could control the heating with the digital thermostat in the hallway.

Fast-forward to August this year we had a gas leak which was dealt with and once the gas had been switched back on we had an engineer from Viessmann out to check over the boiler, he stated that we could easily control each rooms heat with the Tado app rather than just using the thermostat. I thought great, so, downloaded the app and from the exact day we cannot get the heating to come on. The boiler works as we have hot water and if we put the boiler into service mode the heating comes on.

It's almost like the app has taken over and isn't allowing us to do anything! I have deleted my account and re-added it, I have disconnected and reconnected the internet bridge, I have forgotten the device then re-connected with it and nothing seems to be working! I may add that the connection looks great when looking at the bridge.

I believe we have the Starter Kit - Wired Smart Thermostat V3+

I haven't bought a new system yet we are currently getting by with a couple of electric fan heaters! Any advice more than welcome I hope that clears a few bits up!

  • Hello @Louise_Allen24

Interesting you mention your boiler not reacting to your calls for heat. Looking at the backend, you don't have a Boiler Programmer or any thermostat wired to the boiler, so it makes sense that your set-up is not working.

I see you are already in contact with support, that's good. However, you have 2 tickets opened. It seems to me that Kinga has already identified the main issue. Please stay in contact with her and answer her questions as best as possible.

@wateroakley You mentioned 'If you're still having issues, please reach out to the community for their help and advice'.

If support are unable to assist with @Louise_Allen24 issues. How on earth will the community assist, when they have the knowledge and expertise.

  • @royi

Why would support be unable to help this member? They've already identified the problem.

  • Manual control should over ride the app. Set the main thermostat to several degrees above current temperature and see if the boiler comes on.

Has the boiler programmer been set to heating always on?

  • @srichards This member does not have a Boiler Programmer, that's why her set-up is not working.

Im glad the issue has been identified and now they can move forward and buy the programmer, so that they can integrate the system and have their system working in smart mode.
