Does the temperature sensor read humidity / does offsetting temp change relative humidity reading?

Hi,

I'm sat here with my Tado wireless temperature sensor next to 2 separate humidity sensors.

My stats are:

Sensor 1: 56% humidity / 19.7°C
Sensor 2: 57% humidity / 19.5°C
Tado: 74% humidity / 18°C

The Tado is obviously way off the other sensors.
It is set as my 'measuring device' for this room, which also contains a TRV.

So first question is: does the wireless temperature sensor check humidity or is the TRV doing that?

Second question is: Does humidity reading take temperature offsets into account? I adjusted temperature by 2.5C to bring it in line with the other sensors but saw no change to humidity in Tado's readout for the room.

Thanks in advance.

@Jonnyapps Welcome. AFAIK the measuring device reports both temperature and humidity. From using a temperature offset for a couple of months, I'd doubt that an offset would have a direct bearing on the reported humidity.

  • @wateroakley Thanks for the welcome and for the helpful reply.

I've confirmed, by removing the TRV and unplugging it, that I still get data from the temperature sensor. I am however seeing a near 8% offset (higher) between all of my Tado readouts (5 TRVs and a temperature sensor) compared to the various other humidity sensors I've used to check them.

Just to add a bit of background to what wateroakly has already correctly written….

The relative humidity measured by tado° depends on where in the room it is measured and what the current temperature is.The measurement can also depend on many other factors, such as the position of the vents, the orientation of the devices to the windows, etc., and it can vary over time.

tado° thermostats are designed to accurately measure temperature and control heating.Humidity measurement is a secondary addition to thermostats and as such is not always as accurate. Unfortunately the humidity cannot be adjusted with the offset.

@Emcee Thanks for the further detail. I've done extensive testing throughout my house and every single Tado readout is 7-8% higher than the 3 different dedicated humidity sensors I've tested, and I've done the testing by placing the sensors directly next to the Tados in each instance and compared them over multiple days, in different temperatures with heating on/off etc.

So, it would be good to have an offset option!
