TADO APP OFF BUT BOILER IS ON WASTING GAS - DEFEATS THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF TADO!!

Hi there,

Our boiler (Worcester Greenstar 2022) is constantly coming on when the we switch everything off on the app. The app shows everything is off. THe radiators are cold to touch. There is no hot water. But yet the boiler still switches on and is burning through LPG gas that we can ill afford. We have had this problem before and upon Tado’s recommendation, we got our plumber and electrician out again at our expense to check everything, the boiler, the pump, the control unit. They were on the phone directly to TADO and took photos and sent to TADO, who confirmed all the wiring is correct!!! The bridge has 3 solid lights, the thermostat is connected, there are no blinking lights on the control.

We have now set up a ring camera to film the boiler coming on when the tado app ‘assures’ us everything is switched off. We are going to have to physically switch the boiler off at the mains though the night, because goodness know how much gas TADO has wasted and cost us. We have pleaded with TADO to get someone from their company to come out and fix, (at our expense), but they cannot provide this service. Hmmm, wonder why? Because we can see many other TADO customers have encountered the same problem. WHy do TADO not have any TADO aproved or offiicial engineers of their own who they can send out?? There seem to be thousands of customers on here who have various issues, I’m sure they would welcome this service.

We are at the end of our tether with all the issues we have been experiencing. Tado was meant to save us money, but the cost of the products, install, additionally call outs to plumber and electrician, and wasted unrequested gas, we dread to think how much has been wasted, has cost us over thousands now. If anyone has any ideas what the heck to do we would very much welcome it, before we replace the whole system with another brand who can send their own engineers out to fix things!

As we are coming into cold weather, we really want to be able to sleep at night by having the boiler ready to kick in for frost protection if need be, but we can’t sleep at night, thinking that the boiler is burning gas we don’t ask for!

After seeing other similar posts on this forum, we would welcome a phone call from a TADO director or even better, a TADO engineer to come out and address the whole TADO system.

Firstly, please be aware that this forum is primarily a community of Tado users. @Emcee is a Tado employee and I would expect that he'll pass this up their management chain

Sorry to hear that your system is not performing as expected. Can you please provide more detail about your installation - tado components installed, type of system (combi, S or Y plan), relay or digital connection - including wiring photos as the behaviour you're seeing is not normal and certainly not a widespread issue

    Some questions

    1. When you do want heat, does Tado operate correctly and call for heat from the boiler?
    2. Assuming relay connections, when Tado is all "off", is there voltage on the boiler switched live terminal?
    3. Have you had the other non-Tado components of your system checked? This could be caused by a faulty motorised valve or faulty boiler controller

    Thanks

  • Is it a combi? I have a Worcester Greenstar and it has a preheat function that periodically tops up a small store of water. I have it turned off, which you can do from the front panel menu.

@Pooky sorry to hear you are having problems with unexpected behaviour of your boiler/controls.
Our rellie has an older greenstar combi boiler with Tado relay control and does not exhibit your issues.
Good suggestions to check from @davidlyall and @RenwickHoek .
For users to help, can you describe which Tado devices are you using?
If you are using the wireless receiver, which lights are ON?
Do you have a Y-plan or S-plan plumbing with zone valves? With the boiler always ON, I’d be suspicious of a faulty/stuck valve.

    HTH.
