Tado X and Vaillant VRC 720 --> not compatible?
I read that the smart thermostat X is able to communicate with most boilers (including my brand, Vaillant) using openTherm. My thermostat (VRC720) has opentherm, so I figured that would work out great.
I purchase 5 valves, a border router and a smart thermostat. Setting up the border router was very buggy, but with some factory resets and restarting of the app, we got it done. Next up: the smart thermostat. During the guided installation, when selecting my current boiler thermostat, I get this message:
Clicking the link (how does tado…) I learn that this is somehow categorised as a programmer or a controller by Tado. However it also does function as my thermostat. It is mounted in my living room, not in the boiler room and there is no external or wireless.
This is the point where I consult (which I should've done earlier, I'm now painfully experiencing) the compatibility checker with the smart thermostat. And you know what it says about my model? Nothing. "Click the orange button to consult customer services" and no button to be found. :D
Anyone else that has this particular setup and knows what to do? I see there is indeed this Tado wireless receiver X, but it is only sold in combination with the smart thermostat which I already have…

Hi,
Do you have any updates on the topic?
Seems like I ran into the same problem.

Hello @Mansnic
I had a look through Sjoerd_dl_Vega's support chats. This particular Vaillant thermostat works with BUS, which is not compatible with tado° X (X only supports relay and OpenTherm).
The Smart Thermostat V3+ would be more suitable in this instance.

Hi @Mansnic ,
I worked around the problem by installing a Vaillant VR33. There's a thread (in Dutch though) on it:
