Grant Vortex Kerosene Boiler Powers Rads, Ariston Nuos Plus Heat Pump Powers Potable

I moved into a pre-owned house in March. My previous house I equipped with Tago V3 TRVs, a control panel for the boiler and several wireless thermostats which I adored. I want that level of control back.

So, I've been exploring the new home systems. It's a two energy source system.

The first, potable heat pump water heater made by Ariston: Nuos Plus 250L. The previous owners installed it improperly without ventilation. So it's been running on coil power instead of the heat pump since it was installed. I recently ventilated it. It works now, but I need some better control over it than the dial based interface.

The second energy system powers the home water based radiators and is a exterior kerosene boiler made by "Grant Vortex (90-120 (26-26)))" which is a model number VORTMOD-2636.

The two systems are somewhat linked. As best as I can tell, there is a pipeline thermostat on the Heat Pump that ties into the same control panel as the non-potable water. I am not certain if that thermostats actually does anything though. It's a wild assembly of pipes and two control panels: One on the boiler line (3 thermostats, one in the upstairs, one downstairs, one on the heat pump). And naturally, the Heat Pump itself control panel.

I want to have a single control panel here. Ideally TADO. I eventually will be also replacing the radiators with new ones and TADO TRVs, so would ideally have a single control panel for all of them in the TADO app.

What can I do here?

  • My exploration makes me think separating the two systems control-wise is best. I'm looking at two TADO smart thermostats (1 start pack and 1 extra) for the radiators. Can just set the kerosense boiler to always on if called by the thermostats. See Ariston not listed as a supported boiler so am at a loss there but curious if Ariston boilers are on the docket for inclusion?

  • Also, something on the store changed, Ireland is no longer listed. You sell in Ireland still?

  • I see, Tado X not yet available in Ireland. Would appreciate a timeline there.

  • Hello @Spaatz

I haven't heard anything about stopping sales in Ireland (I would be shocked if this were the case). Can you indicate where Ireland is no longer listed. I will forward this issue to our website team.

tado° X devices are not yet available in the UK/Ireland. This is because we expect Wireless Smart Thermostat X to sell a lot of units in this region. We had to develop this product separately for UK/Irish household's particular heating set-ups and wanted to ensure it had a full feature set before launch. As of right now, we still expect tado° X to be available this autumn - probably 1-2 months from now. Please check the website (or newsletter if you are subscribed) in the next weeks.

Also, please be advised that tado° X is not compatible with earlier V generations. You'd have to have to seperate the 2 systems, having 1 Home with your new X devices and 1 with your current devices.

Finally, before making any purchase, best is to contact tado° support to do a compatibility check. We'll likely have a fuller list of compatible boilers once tado° X is on the UK/Irish market.
