Vaillant Ecotec plus 418 not responding to Tado wireless controller on a Y system plan

The Vaillant boiler is just switched on all the time creating hot water, the heating pump is always on too even when the tado wireless controller is not calling for hot water. It is a Y system in the UK. The tado controller will divert water to the hot water tank when programmed to and calls for heating when required but the boiler is not listening and is on all the time. Anyone got a solution to this? (Only been an issue as our last boiler broke and had to replace it with this one, only noticed the issue now as it summer and some rooms are getting hot from the boiler despite Tado being off for all rooms and we can hear the water pump on constantly).
Changing the boiler to summer mode switches off hot water completely (rather than just heating)
We don't know if it's Tado or Vaillant we should be contacting for support

@Smidgebiff The first suspect from your description would be one of the zone valves. They can fail and sieze 'ON', any time from less than one year to 20 years.

There is a manual lever on the valve motor-head. Use your thumb to move the (spring-loaded) lever to the right. Does it offer 'a lot' or 'little' resistance? If there is little resistance, the valve will likely be 'ON' and calling the boiler/pump for heat.

Example zone valve, the manual lever is in the slot below the cable entry.

@Smidgebiff if the motor-head is making a ‘clicking’ sound, that’s not normal. When the controls ‘call for heat’ the valve should normally make a ‘whir’ as the motor drives the mechanism in the motor-head. Then silent, as it holds the valve open. A clicking sound suggests the motor head / valve is faulty.
From experience, always possible that a faulty (seized/jammed) valve will cause a replacement motor head to fail. Personally, I avoid the cheap motor heads from online sellers.

if the valve is that old, I’d be suspicious of a sticky or seized valve.

  • The boiler tech who came said it was loose and working fine (had about 15 degrees of movement), the metal motor unit was making a really bad clicking noise so I bought a replacement which makes less of a clicking noise but still make it when the boiler is on, I'm assuming its not working then?
  • I did, I bought a replacement Honeywell head from Screwfix, I can return it if I need to, it was hard to find as they don't make the valve I have now, I will look into getting it replaced then 👍
