Can the hot water be turned off without affecting the central heating.

Assuming you have a system such as Y plan or S plan then yes, the hot water can be controlled independently of the heating . . .

Thanks for that, gosh, Y plan or S plan, I remember those. I have a motorised valve so can have heating, hot water or both. Can I turn the hot water off without changing a schedule?0

Yes, turn it off manually in the app or using the HW control on the wireless temperature sensor.
