Assistance with Logic+ C35 Combi Boiler installation
Hello folks, I had an electrician in to install my Starter Kit - Wireless Smart
Thermostat (V3+) [EU] - this is being installed in the UK.
I was provided with the installation instructions from Tado but the images that were in the instructions were different than the wiring in my boiler so im curious if anyone can help. I have also attached the instructions in there entirety:
Issue 1:
The issue we had was on the 'Activate Opentherm interface part 1 step:
Step B shows that there are 2 connector plugs. One that goes into the hole (shown by number 1 arrow) and one that isn't connected to anything number (2). But on my boiler we didn't have two separate plugs, we only had 1 which was positioned in the hole and connected to by a halo smart thermostat.
My boiler:
That black connector was connected to a halo thermostat like so:
In the activate Opentherm interface part 2 section it states to connect number 1 and 2 together but because we didn't have a second connector we couldn't do that.
Here are the instructions:
So im wondering if whether the loom of wires on my boiler need to be separate somehow and a second connector wired? Or am I missing something else here?
Issue 2:
The second issue was regarding the wireless receiver. The instructions I received were unclear to the electrician. They show:
'Loosen the screws of the terminals to be used and connect the wires according to the markings on the printed side of the stickers'. The stickers we have don't show where to connect the wires though and the stickers themselves state to wire as specified in the instructions:
He wasn't sure what terminals needed to be used. Could someone point us in the right direction?
Here is an example of my wireless receiver mounted and unwired:
Thank you!

Hi. This link: Ideal Logic Plus Combi C24 C30 C35 Boiler Installation & Servicing Guide - contains the manufacturer's installation guide for your boiler.
Look at Page 34. According to this, the Opentherm wires are connected to socket X8 on the motherboard. That socket has a harness with the following coloured wires:
- 2 x black, 1 x violet, 1 x red, 1 x green/yellow - thats five in total.
- Which then lead to two plugs:
- one 3 pole plug : 1 x red, 1 x violet, 1 x red.
- one 4 pole plug: 2 x black, 1 x green/yellow, 1 x violet
- On this motherboard, green and yellow wires are earth, black is the lower digital voltage connection, violet is higher digital voltage connection.
It doesnt say so, but it seems to look as though these two plugs are meant to plug into each other, during an installation of an external opentherm controller - such as your Tado.
Have a look at this video: Halo Installation with Smart Interface Bracket - YouTube.
- Do you see what i mean?
- Apart from the colour difference the two black plugs (the six pin one, and the four pin one) seem to be meant to mate.
- A suggestion: call Ideal's tech team and clarify.
As I see it, if you plug those two into each other, then go to the opentherm connectors:
- Wire black to negative, grey to positive, orange is capped on the Tado wireless receiver
- Back to negative, grey to positive, orange is wired to P3,
- You may have to tell the boiler that you have fitted Opentherm, I think page 39 of the boiler manual describes this,
- Wake up the App, follow the instructions, set the protocol
- It should work.
Perhaps someone with much more experience could chip in here?
Perhaps @davidlyall ? And yes - someone needs to update Tado's pdf guide.
