Remove 10 room limit

I don’t live in a castle, but I exceeded the 10 room limit. So one room could not control the boiler after adding a temperature sensor to the room. Was ok before. To get round it I had to group two rooms together. Not ideal. I don’t see why 10 is a limit. Can’t Tado increase that please.

    Hello @robromani,

Thank you for your suggestion. This request has, as pointed out by @GrayDav4276, several times on the forum. tado° is aware it is a salient issue among its user base. We are listening and really appreciate your help to continually improve our products and services.

  • Is that now fixed? Why not 20? 30?

    Seems like an unnecessary restriction.

Does the app tell you when a room is added that doesn’t call for heat?

Only relevant for V3+: You can add more than 10 rooms, the limit is 10 rooms per zone controller. I'm not sure what the app tells you about this limit, but you can select and de-select the zone controller per room in the app.

For tado X this limit is gone, if I'm not mistaken.

  • I have 17 rads across the 10 room limit. However, the bridge and/or controller does not seem capable of executing the “turn off all rooms” function. It seems to get overwhelmed with signals and leaves one or two rooms randomly on despite the app showing them as off. Boiler still runs and rads are flat out. As a result I have no faith that geofencing will work when the heating is on in the winter either. Tado investigating but don’t seem to have any idea what the issue is. I’m rather regretting the £1k it’s cost me to do this now.

@John61 Hello John. For other users in the community to help, can you provide a bit more information on what devices are installed, locations, and what is happening. Is the issue always the same rad/TRV? Is the device OFF-LINE in the app? Do you have a wireless controller and what lights are ON or OFF when this happens?

Larger homes: Some users find that connection to distant devices can be a 'range' issue and re-location of the internet dongle to a central location may help. E.g. we have have 15 devices across 10 'rooms' in a 1960's house and the conservatory is just too far, so we use dumb TRV on that rad.

Geofencing: We routinely use 'geofencing'. It works just fine for us. We have never found any rooms are left 'ON'. Similarly, our rellie uses geofencing for their Edwardian villa with 11 devices across 9 'rooms'.

ROI: If you're interested about ROI for the the £1K spend … We spent £750 on Tado in 2022 and manage the room temperatures and times to suit our use. We now save over 50% annually on the gas bill when compared to usage at the same outside temperature in 2018-21. The ROI at July 2024 prices is about 9 months and our total savings since February 2022 are circa £2,500. No promises that everyone can achieve the same level of savings.

FYI: We've been tracking the monthly energy usage since 2018 and daily since October 2021. Scatter diagram of 2018-2024 monthly data. Daily kWh vs outside temperature (Mean CET) .

Line graph from October 2021 of daily usage (kWh) for each month. The blue line is the comparable usage from 2018-21 at the same outside temperature (mean CET).

@wateroakley : Very similar to my findings. Tado saving ~30% in gas, and the house is much more comfortable due to more even temperatures. Schedules set to heat from 06:30 to 22:30, and geofencing to turn off when we're out.

@pcone Thanks for sharing your findings. Good to see they are similar to ours: substantial energy savings, comfort from even temperatures, detailed schedules from 04:30 to 22:30 (to suit our use of rooms and hot water), and a lot of geo-fencing. We've probably reached near optimum usability in the third year (2024, yellow line).
