Wiring issues

I have a Vaillant combi boiler that was connected to a Drayton ( I believe) thermostat, unfortunately, the stat only had numbers, not Ch Com etc, it was connected to the hall stat by wire, I’ve tried almost every configuration with no success, has anyone else had the same issues, I’m starting to feel a little foolish
