Main room & hot water controller offline

My main controller (wireless room stat linked to a wireless extension kit) is offline in the app and fails to respond to the button being pressed - which has also put the hot water offline. I've tried a couple of sets of new non-rechargeable batteries but it stills doesn't power up. This means (I think) that I have lost my scheduled hot water and manual override (as it's this device which controls the hot water).

Whilst I wait to see what Tado suggest... can I replace this main controller with another room stat from another room? I think the failed one might be different as the other rooms are just 'add-on' TRV controllers?

    ‘Add on’ is just what tado calls devices that aren’t sold as part of a starter kit. Any wireless temperature sensor or smart thermostat will work as a replacement.
