Does scheduling hotwater on Tado app help reduce energy consumption rather than keeping it turned on

Hi,

I have noticed that there is a hot water option in the app.

But I have never used it.

We have a combi boiler.

If I turn this off on the app, does it turn off the hot water in the boiler?

Can schedule when to get hot water?

please can Tado help advise on this?

Many thanks,

Naren.

Are you trying to contact Tado support? This is the community forum.

How is your Tado device wired? If it’s via relay the hot water control will do nothing. If it’s a digital connection you should be able to set the hot water temperature to whatever you desire.
  • Hi, I have just had the tado 'Starter Kit V3+' installed. We have a gravity fed system. I have just programmed the water to heating to come on at 06.00 and go off at 08.00. However, when I attempt to to put the PM time in the 'Add time block' it cancels out the morning time. Also when i go to set the PM time the 24 hour clock only has the numbers 1-12 lite up and not the 13-24, it does not allow you to have access to them. consequetly I can only have the heating on timed in the morning. I would be most grateful for any suggestions.

  • Thankyou johnnyp78

    Tado is a digital connection.

  • If I turn on scheduling for hot water on the Tado app, does it turn off heating the water in the boiler? if this is the case, does the boiler takes time to heat the water up when scheduling kicks in or does it pre-heat the water and keep water warm by the starting time set in the Tado thermostat? please could you advise, thank you.

You’ve got a combi boiler so you have almost instant hot water regardless of the settings. You can set the water temperature in the Tado app, if you turn it off it may either turn off the hot water or revert control to the boiler panel, depending on the boiler model.

Pre heat is usually a setting on the combi that gives you slightly quicker hot water. In my opinion it isn’t worth using.
  • If you have the Starter Kit V3 then this doesn't control you hot water. You need the extension kit to control that. But you say you have a combi boiler and you have a gravity fed system. If you have a gravity fed system, you will have a hot water tank. If you have a combi boiler, you don't need a hot water tank because the hot water comes from the boiler. I would think you have one or the other.

If you have a hot water tank, you can save money by scheduling the hot water. I have a heat store tank system which is controlled by the Tado extension kit, which I schedule to to top up the heat in my store from my system boiler when the store is not getting heat from either my solar panel or wooding burning stove. It is also possible to control the temperture of the water in my store by adding a Sonoff temperature sensor. (Saddly it is not possible to do this with a Tado device) My heating system controlled by Tado has saved me a lot of money over the years I've had it.

  • Having a digital setting is not a guarantee your app can adjust the temp of the hot water - if you go into the TADO pro app and set it up correctly eg is it COmbitherm compatible it will allow you to adjust your hotwater max temp when you do a system check - if like mine (BUserus Logamax U154) it advises you have to set the water temp on the boiler. As a combi you dont even have to have the hot water setting on unless you are using a tank

  • @jelly the extension kit is discontinued. The uk wireless receiver, which comes in the wireless starter kit has additional relays for hot water control.

@hipponax1973 you wouldn’t be using a tank with a combi boiler. Some will turn off the hot water if you turn off hot water in the Tado app on a digital connection, some will revert control to the boiler panel. Some digital protocols don’t give you hot water control at all.
  • @johnnyp78 thats what i was trying to say but im not very goof with the technical speak - eg i have a combi boiler and therefore have deactivated the ability to mess with the water in my app

  • johnnyp78 I did wonder why I hadn't seen it in the product list. I think myself lucky I have an older version, as I can't see how having additional relays in the wireless receiver would work with my system as the wireless unit is a long way from my heat store. I hope Tado will support the extension kit, as without it, I would have no control over my boiler.

  • I have a glow worm with Tado connected via ebus and am able to set the hot water temp with the app so set it to max when I need to wash up then lower it to 40 ish for showers so not using as much gas
  • dudesuper That does sound interesting that you can do that. I guess you have the wireless controller connected to your boiler and modulate it via the bus. I'm not sure I would be able to do that, as the temperature of the water depends on the temperature of my heat stove (tank).
