Wireless underfloor heating
I have a fully set up tado system across all of my house (rads in every room) except for my kitchen, which has UFH, where the heating is controlled vi a wireless non-tado thermostat. I want to add the kitchen to the tado set up so I can see usage through the app and control the heating remotely. However everything I’ve read suggests I’ll need to wire in a thermostat into my kitchen. Is it possible to have tado control my UFH without having to wire in a thermostat in my kitchen? I found a Dutch site (https://savvycons.nl/en/blogs/blog/tado-en-vloerverwarming) which suggest it is but can’t find anything on the UK site. Welcome any thoughts!

You need a wired thermostat to control the ufh valve. It you want to add a wireless temp sensor somewhere else as the measuring device, there’s no reason why you can’t.1

I recently set up UFH with two zones. Both are controlled by a wired Tado thermostat. One zone is the kitchen, and the boiler and manifold are in the corner of the room, the wired thermostat deals with measuring the temperature in that room, and provides the relay switching of the zone. The other zone is the utility and is also controlled by a wired thermostat, however the temperature is monitored by a wireless thermostat in the room itself. Everything, including the tado extension kit (for the radiator valves in other rooms) is wired through a heatmeiser wiring centre. In the tado app I now have three zone controllers, the two ufh zones plus the extension kit for all the radiator valves in the other rooms.0

You’re going to need something to control the ufh valve and something to tell the temperature in the kitchen. Depending on where the valve is you could put the thermostat there but you’ll still need a device in the kitchen to measure the temperature.1

Thanks. I understand that element. But is there a reason the UK tado site only shows a wired thermostat in that scenario, whereas the Dutch (admittedly non-tado) site seems to show both options?0

Ie is it possible to have a wireless thermostat in the kitchen to control my underfloor heating, wirelessly connected to something (unclear what specific unit) near the valve in my utility?0

Brilliant thanks for the help I appreciate it.0

Follow up question on this - I’ve purchased the wireless tado receiver and wireless temperature sensor, but when trying to find installation instructions on the app for replacing the Heatmiser switch with the tado receiver, the app comes up with an error message - “tado is not compatible with the Heatmiser switch RF”. But I don’t need compatibility - the whole point is to replace it! Am I missing something?0

Yes, as I said, you should be using a tado wired thermostat to replace your existing thermostat and then a wireless temp sensor to measure the temperature. No idea what you’re doing with a wireless receiver. As you already have a Tado system installed presumably you already have one, and there can only be one per Tado account.0

I already have a tado thermostat which controls all of the radiators in the rest of the house. I’m just trying to connect the UFH to the same setup. I Thought I just needed to replace the Heatmiser switch (which currently controls the UFH) with a tado receiver?0

Do you already have a Tado wireless receiver installed? What is connected to your boiler? If it’s a wired thermostat you should be ok with installing your new wireless receiver, if you already have a wireless receiver installed you can’t usually install two.
I don’t know about the error message, it’s probably Tado trying to over complicate things. If you Google ‘Tado wireless receiver manual’ you should get generic install instructions which should be workable. You’re installing a relay connection.0 -
Currently got a wireless thermostat so suspect that might be an issue, but from this separate chat it looks like Tado might be able to change settings from their end to make it work.

Really appreciate your assistance with this. I’ll update how I get on…0 -
If you currently have a wireless thermostat then you also have a wireless receiver, so unless Tado has changed its settings you won’t be able to use two.
That link you’ve posted seems to be about multiple wired thermostats, which aren’t a problem.0 -
Sorry I posted the wrong link: see response from Rob admin in this thread: https://community.tado.com/en-gb/discussion/9219/support-multiple-wireless-receivers-extension-kits0

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. He doesn’t mention anything about two wireless receivers - you use a wired thermostat and then a wireless temp sensor.0
