Why is heating on based on schedule when "away" state has been set?

I'm confused by my heating switching on while away had been set many hours earlier.

This afternoon the heating switched on to reach the set temperature of 19 degrees as configured in the "home" smart schedule. I expected heating to remain off because "away" state was configured which is set to heat only to maintain 14.5 degrees.

Am I misunderstanding how 'away' state works or is something wrong???

Thank you all for commenting on this problem. I have just figured out what was happening. I'll explain what was going on in case someone faces the same issue and maybe googless into this thread.

The thing to understand is this: Each time block in your smart schedule can be set up to ignore or be overriden by the away state temperature.

In my case the smart schedule I set up a long time ago had all time blocks with the ignore mode active. It may be the default, or I was just not aware of what I was configuring at the time, I'm not sure.

This is a screenshot of the switch (the screen shows the setting to honour the away status which overrides the smart schedule block:

So I reconfigured all my time blocks like the screenshot above, and now everything works as I expected. When I'm away, and set away state, no more smart schedule (home state) blocks become active...

There is one clue in the smart schedule overview screen. When a time block shows the crossed out "location marker" icon (circled in red), that smart block will be active, even when away state is set by the user, which will probably start the heating, like it did in my case. Setting the switch like mentioned above, will make the markers disappear.

Have you paid for a subscription? If so, if you click on settings > smart schedule > room then you should see some options for preheat before arrival. Try turning it to eco or off.

Check that early start is turned off as well, and check that geofencing control is turned on for each schedule block.
  • I’ve seen a similar thing to this. 6 rooms are set to heat to 18º when home, 5º when away. I checked while I was away just to make sure the geofencing had kicked in. 5 rooms were heating to 5º as they should but one of them was heating to 13.5º.

No ideas why as 13.5 isn’t set in the schedule anywhere.

Yep. I have all the rooms set to Eco and I was 24 miles away when I checked it. 🤔

Ooops, so much for my memory. I’ve just nipped down the shops and had a look at the App. It shows me as away but heating to 14.5º. I must have been a lot closer to home than I thought when I checked the last time. The rooms that are showing frost protection are the ones with the heating set really low, so no preheat required.

    Good call, cheers.
