Wireless room stat & smart trv's

I've just installed smart trv's that work through my wireless room stat and internet bridge. My system is the V3. When setting up I opted to use the wireless room stat as a zone controller. My question is this. Will the wireless room stat still call for heat and fire the boiler up when the room it's in drops below it's set temp? Or Should I put a smart trv on the rad in the room with the wireless room stat and use that to call for heat?

the thermostat will call for heat in the room it is located and that will fire the boiler. The advantage of a TRV is that it can control the specific radiator it is attached to. If for example you have a number of radiators in different rooms without Tado TRVs the room stat will call for heat and every radiator without a TVR will receive heat not just the one in the room where the thermostat is located.

So for better granular control put a Tado TRV in the same room.

  • That’s really interesting since I asked a question on a similar issue recently, where the radiator in the same room as the wireless stat would routinely over shut the set temperature (rad has not been fitted with smart TRV) my reading of your post is fit TRV and set to same temperature as room stat🤞

That’s not how Tado works. You set temperatures per room on the app, not per device (assuming you’re referring to a Tado trv, not a dumb one).
  • Hi
Thanks then I need to be clear on why a room stat and a smart TRV would be used in the same room. My understanding of convention is you don’t mix the two as one is competing with the other. All rooms are set individually on the app where smart TRVs fitted except the room where the room stat is (no TRV), set temp on app is 19 and temperature over shoots, currently showing 23 degrees. Was hoping to refine the heating control of this room.
  • You’re thinking about dumb trvs. There’s no problem using Tado trvs and thermostats in the same room as you set one appliance to be the measuring device, usually the thermostat/ wireless temperature sensor.
  • Hi that’s clear now thank you, will introduce a Tado TRV in the said room 👍
