Some questions from new user (that the FAQ does not answer)

Hey all,

I recently setup my Tado including 2 radiator thermostats. I however have 2 questions on the use/efficience of the setup:

• Question 1: The default/recommended setting of the Tado is to turn off warm water at night and when your away. But my countries local health authorities recommend having your warm water tempature at atleast 60c to prevent salmonella. Is the default Tado just wrong/not safe? Or is it safe to have the water temp drop at times during the day, as long as its its warm when you use it? Or that it atleast once a day hits 60c to prevent salmonella? Some guidance/expert advance would be appriciated!
• Question 2: My previous thermostat, a Qtwist from Remeha (the brand of the boilet) has a setting "preheating time" and it was set to 180 minutes. In a attempt to (blindly) cut usage I once set this to like 60 minutes, thinking I don't need it to warm up that much earlier. Then later I read the the 3hours is actually optimal, since the boiler does not have to go full force in 1 go, but can stadily buildup, which is more efficient in then going up faster/earlier. Now with the tado (i have the early start setting turned on) I see that it starts heating (being at 17, going to 19) 30 minutes before the set time and very rapdly heats up. Is this efficient? Is this not the opposite of what I read about a slower pre-heating? Or am i mixing up the heating of the room with the pre-heating of the boiler? And if so, does the Tado also regulate that? Cause i don't have such a setting like I used to have.
• Question 3: My zone manager (smart thermostat) is in room 1, this room has reached its goal tempature, this room has not radiator thermostats (radiators are full open always). Room 2 has a radiator thermostat but uses the same zone manager from room 1. Room 2 has not yet hit the goal tempature. Should the tado start requesting heat from the boiler because it needs to for room 2, and as a side effect also heat room 1 a bit (cause it has not radiators managers) or will room 2 just not get to its target, because the zone manager see's that its own room is already at target?

1 - it's recommended to heat hot water to 60C to kill legionella but it doesn't need to stay at that heat, so one or two heating cycles is fine (assuming you have a storage cylinder - if not (boiler is 'combi' and provides HW on demand) then not relevant)

2 - Not familiar with your boiler, but early start relates to time the heating comes on to reach room temp by start of programmed time. To be honest, this tado functionality isn't very good and many users programme gradually increasing temperatures into their schedule, to reflect the actual behaviour of their boiler (e.g. 17, 17.5, 18, 18.5, 19 with 45 minute intervals - it depends how fast your property heats up).
