Smart AC Control not behaving as expected (hoped?)

I have a Tado system that uses the AC Control unit in one room. Before buying it, I read that I needed an AC unit where the remote control had a display for temperature/fan speed/etc, and received info back from the AC unit to keep this display up to date. My Daikin does. However, from this, I made an assumption.

I thought that when I send a command from my Daikin remote control (the handset that came with it, not the Tado) - saying, for example: “heat, 20 degrees, fan high” - the Daikin must send a confirmation back to the remote control saying: “command received - heat, 20 degrees, fan high”. (Let’s call this the complex scenario)

What I’m starting to think happens is that, in the above example, all the AC sends back to the Daikin remote control is a simple “command received”. (Let’s call this the simple scenario)

Why is this important? Well, some people in my house, especially guests, would rather just use the remote control, not Tado.

If the complex scenario was what’s going on, that wouldn’t be a problem. A command would be sent by the remote control or the Tado, processed by the AC unit, and then the confirmation sent back would be something both the remote control and the Tado could receive and interpret. The system and both controls - Tado and remote - would all stay in sync.

However if the simple scenario is true, then only the device that issues the command can know what commands have been sent. So, in the example quoted, the Daikin remote would know the settings that have been asked for, but the Tado would still think the system is off. That’s what seems to be happening for me. Is that the best I can expect?

As far as I know it works in simple. Take the AC remote into the other room and Turn On/Change the AC's settings. The remote will think it's done it and show the changed setting while the AC in other room would not have received the signal and still be off.

I don't have a Daikin but that's how mine works.

  • Oh, if you don't want people to use remote the simplest thing to do is hide it/remove batteries

  • The AC units do not send any confirmation back. The remote, or tado, literally send a code asking for the specific mode, temp and fan, and expect nothing back. The remote, or tado, then remembers the last setting that it sent. So if you use two control methods it doesn't work the same. Nothing to stop you though.... Just not as easy.
