Tado TRV doesn't open valve enough for heat

Hi,

I just installed tado on my 4 radiators. 3 of them are working just fine, but one of them, I don't know why, is not heating enough. I already tried to reseat the device and recalibrate, tried to move the valve pin to see if it was stuck (it was not), and leaving the valve without the TRV makes the radiator hot as it should.

But as soon as I add the TRV back, let it recalibrate, it heats for a while and then stops. Right now I have it set to 25 degrees Celsius just to check if it's heating, let it sit like this for half an hour and it platoed at 20.6, slowly starting to get cold again.

Anyone know what can be the cause? The adapter is the right one, I already checked. They are the same one as in the other rooms which the TRV is working just fine. Could this specific TRV be the culprit?

Thanks

  • should be easy to test.

swap the TRV with a rad that doesn't have an issue, and see if the fault follows the TRV or not.

For my SRV flow issue I Spoke with support they can adjust the opening of the valve and or minimise the boiler calls at low srv openings. More common than you would think as srv calibration is not tagged to actual successful heating but rather a guess at when the valve is open. Be persistent.
  • Actually noticed that all of them are doing the same.

If I completely remove the TRV from all valves, it heats as they should. When I add tado TRV back it slowly cools down to a point that is colder than the target temperature, never recovering back even though the app shows the 3 heating signs. Radiator stays cold to touch the whole time.

My old thermostats were Oventrops Uni LH - 30 x 1.5. Isn't this the default size that tado comes with? I'll try to speak with support, but to me it seems the adapter is making the tado TRV push the valve pin at all times, never allowing enough hot water to come through.

  • I've returned the old TRV to 3 rooms and kept tado on my bedroom. Funny enough now tado in my bedroom now can heat and maintain temperature, like the other rooms with the old not smart valves...

Really not sure what to do...

  • They open the radiator more when they're in independent mode. In the calling for heat mode they demand heat from the boiler, get the heating turned on then don't open enough to make use of it. It's laughably bad. In independent mode they open more to grab the heat while the heating is on anyway.

Try them in the independent mode ie no zone controller.
