Is the wired starter kit all I need?

Hi, I've got a Honeywell ST9400C controller that has a physical wire connection to a thermostate in my hall and a physical wire connection to my hot water cylinder. The cylinder has a thermostate on it and the boiler is oil.
The ST9400C has a House Heating side and a Hot Water Heating side ie the hot water and heating work independently of each other.

My question is - do I need the wired starter kit or wired starter kit + hot water controller?
Tado's product finder suggests just the wired starter kit, negative hot water controller.

Thanks for your patience with my elementary question.

  • You should get away with just the wired as L, you set the heating on Constant on the Honeywell and let the thermostat actually turn the boiler on and off for heating.

Then the Honeywell will deal with the hot water switching on and off.

Tado has the ability to do the hot water but it needs the Hot Water extension kit which replaces the Honeywell programmer.

The only downside of Tado controlling the hot water is when you are away the heating system switches off (which means no hot water when you come back if your switch on times are while you are out.)
  • The wireless receiver starter kit is what you need for heating and hot water. The wireless receiver device replaces the ST9400C. With regards to the hot water scheduling you can choose how it behaves when you are away from the home. For instance, if you normally have the hot water on for five hours a day you can choose to have it on for 0 hours, 5 hours, or any time in between whilst you are away. Each time block for both CH and HW has an individual geofencing switch.

@Maxchat We replaced our ST9400C programmer and wireless Honeywell room stat with the Tado wireless starter kit and TRVs.
