Temperature change after changing batteries

I have two tado thermostats. They had both reported low batteries recently but were still working ok.

I decide to change the batteries before they went flat. To my surprise. Both booted up and reported a room temperatures of 21 degrees. Prior to the swap they were 14-15 degrees.

Now that I think about it, it does feel warmer than 14 but it’s wet ufh system so you tend to find lower air temp but still feel warm so I’d put it down to that.

To confuse the matter further, I have a wired thermostat in the bedroom of the same floor, just a different zone off the same ufh manifold (not a tado one as guess what? It’s out of range for the bridge) which is also an air thermostat. I.e it’s not got a probe in the floor. This also reports 15 degrees and feels the same temp as the other rooms.

So which is right and what’s going on?

  • If you handle them too much they will be recording the temperature of your hands and will take 10 or so minutes to gradually go back to the true ambient air temperature as the thermostat casing cools down.
  • I'd expect the thermostat temperature to be inaccurate for 15 minutes due to handling the thermostats. A body temperature of 37°C will quickly transfer a lot of heat to plastic. If the elevated temperature persists then something else is wrong.

  • Thanks guys. I guess what you said was spot on. After 5 mins they both dropped back to 15 degrees after a short spike.
