Can I use Tado SRTs with a 3rd-party thermostat connected to the boiler?
Hi, all.
Simple and potentially dumb question; I'd just like to check whether my mental model is correct. 🙂
I'm in the UK; I have a system boiler (Vaillant), and a wireless Honeywell Thermostat (T6). I'm renting, so I'm not comfortable with replacing the Thermostat itself.
If I install a bunch of Tado SRTs, is it correct that I should effectively sync the schedule between my Honeywell Thermostat and the Tado SRTs?
In other words: in the time range when I would like my SRTs to be able to turn on/off a specific radiator, the Honeywell thermostat should always be "on", right? (i.e. I need to 1) place it somewhere where it doesn't reach its desired temperature or, alternatively, 2) set the desired temperature higher than I need, or 3) always on).
(I realise that the above only makes sense if all of my radiators are either off or using SRTs, otherwise they'd just do what the Honeywell thermostat says)

Put the Honeywell thermostat in the room where you want the highest temperature, usually the living room. Then put the smart TRVs in the less used rooms where you want a lower temperature. You shouldn't put smart TRVs in the same room as the Honeywell thermostat.
The Honeywell thermostat schedule will have to be active whenever you want a smart TRV to heat a room.
