Nathaniel - Discussion about "no remote access"

The product... yeah if I knew what I knew now but we are all it the same boat...

Bespoke - yeah not so clever...MATTER discuss :)

You have just blasted me (black/cyber) with offers - piss off.

Your kit works (just) for me but the interface is a dog - sign me up for a monthly sub, £5 a month a wouldn't even blink so long as it works.... a pro version if you like that comes with a sub.

sick of seeing this every time I logon, wait a day or two and it all comes back but seriously WTF

  • Discuss? Love the product but my point is the backend leaves us short.

I'm saying they have a product but once we have bought they are done, they need a revenue stream to 1. allow them to continue providing a backend that allows our investment to continue working and 2. just keep working (else our investment in cloud kit is done)

I think a VC bought them so they have to monetise, else I'll be left with a 3 property 26 rad hardware investment that is useless....

    Gray... really

  • Apologies, yes I am prone to a rant ;)

In defence I'm just disappointed with the backend and can see how hard they are trying to drive revenue when it is sat in front of them if they would just ask with a premium product that worked.

Soz Gray, I'd like this post to be taken seriously.

  • I don't think it comes across as a rant, blunt maybe :)

I experience the exact same issue way too much resulting in no hot water in the morning and a freezing cold house (sub 10c). Not great with a family.

@N0rman_Road1 this happens because the extension kit loses contact with the internet bridge. I can't see any logic why this happens, I can go weeks without any drops and suddenly I get this 3+ times within a few days.

Tado support is responsive, but regurgitate the same response "reposition the internet bridge" - not so easy in a large stone built house, and why should I when it works for weeks without issue?

They know and we know that there are range issues which need additional internet bridges to resolve ...

  • Thanks Paul, I'll take blunt :)

Yep same problem but 4 bed semi 50's built and all line in sight. Hot water just turns off, it is random. I feel your pain. At home same problem, rads just vanish that have worked for weeks. Tiny 1 bed rental, nightmare.... same as above. I told them this kit was the nuts.

I think if they could have developed an additional bridge/repeater they would have already, sadly I don't think they can, they took a early protocol and made it bespoke - 868mhz, and clearly coded it poorly.

We are investors/early adopters and if they do 2.0 (MATTER/LoFi etc.) properly our kit will redundant.

If they do, for some of us that will be a blessed relief/walk away but they are still slamming my inbox for a product they know has "issues".

Honestly, I just wanted to pay more for a product that worked, but I am now more thinking class action legal.

Let's see if this post gets removed or better still gets a "class action" response...C'mon Gray.

    Best

  • Gray... you called it, just re-read #moderateme

But I will go with blunt ;)

  • I still think the individual pieces of hardware could be salvaged, if only they wouldn't try to cover an entire house with one bridge, and decentralised by moving the system's brain from the cloud to the home. One bridge per room, or couple of rooms sounds more sane to me, and something like a Raspberry Pi ought to have enough power to run the heating of a property...

This would probably make their business-plan based on the subscription model fail though, and I guess a set-up where you just buy some hardware once, then use it for 20 years (and either fix issues yourself, or hire an independent technician to do maimtenance), like you would with a 'dumb' heating system, just isn't going to provide enough profit to work.

  • I have renamed this discussion and moved it out of the Ideation section since I think that the main points are already covered by some of the other threads in the ideation section.
