Change "hot water control" device?

How can you change the "DEVICES" that are listed under "Settings / Rooms & Devices / HOT WATER CONTROL / Hot Water" in the Tado app?

Currently, I have two devices listed: my wireless receiver and one of my wireless temperature sensors. I have two wireless temperature sensors and want to change which controls the hot water settings.

I appreciate that I can (and might have to) switch the configurations so that the sensor linked to the hot water is in the room that I need it to be, but I would prefer to avoid this if possible as I have already physically labelled the sensors for the rooms that they are located in..

  • I recently bought a second wireless temp sensor and was wondering the same thing. I suspect the only way might be to uninstall the first temp sensor and then the new one will take over hot water control. Perhaps someone can come up with a more elegant solution though.

  • For me, no, as I think the wireless temp sensors are much more of a pain to use than the app. @Branleigh might feel differently though.

  • Thank you johnnyp78, your suggested workaround did work for me with the following clarification: The hot water control did not automatically switch to the new temp sensor when I uninstalled the first temp sensor. Instead, it had no temp sensor.

I had to then uninstall the new temp sensor as well and then reinstall them both, ensuring to install the new temp sensor first so that this sensor is the one that gets linked to the hot water control.

GrayDav4276, it only matters which device controls the hot water if you care about turning on and off the hot water by a device instead of the app. In my case, I am trying to make it easy for guests staying at my home, who do not have access to the app, to do this without my assistance (I am often overseas and out of reach). These guests are often not technology literate enough to do this using Alexa voice commands.

I wanted to change the hot water configuration in the app, rather than simply move temp sensors between rooms as I have labelled the sensors with room specific instructions for my guests.

  • Well at least you got it sorted! No idea why Tado has put that limitation in but also not totally surprised that it’s there.
