Tado Smart Thermostat - Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDI29
Hi, moved into a home a while back that had a wireless Hive. ALl that got removed just before we got the house (we told the woman we didnt need it as I was bringing my Tado with me).
Well anyways, moved in and hooked the Wired Thermostat direct into the boiler where it worked fine for the last 15 months.
Wiring was
+ Tado : Grey: B Worcester
_ Tado : Black: B Worcester
D17, No EK, No HW- Saved
a few days ago, I got a low battery warning so I swapped them out. After refitting, I noted that the battery was still showing low on the Tado App. No change here regardless of brand or charge level. Boiler ENgineer said the Tado was faulty, so I bought a new one.
Fitting it in place and nothing works. All the install things - linking and settings (D17 etc all the same).
Speaking with someone (a sparky) and they said that Tado should be wired
With the LR/LS/NS on the Worcester into NO/Com on the Tado then R01 - 230V switched relay settings.
Im lost now - Whos right? Tado or the Sparky? Neither seems to work.

You’ve wired it using a digital connection, the electrician is telling you to wire it in relay. There’s no reason to do this. I’m not sure why the new wired thermostat wouldn’t be working if the old one did. Is it pairing ok with the bridge?0

Yeah, the pairing, everything is fine. It shows paired. Took a few seconds really when I tried the new one.
To humour him I'm trialling it in 230v mode. 🤷0 -
Now it's peculiar.
It works, responds perfect to relay mode. r01 on the settings. And hooked in Ls/Lr , No/Com
Why would it suddenly stop on the Digital Bus connectors, and then work fine on the Relay? Weird.
Could it have anything to do with the boiler having a hive iq plate on the front? The British Gas diagnostic module thing? Speaking with BG, they said the account for the old lady who stayed here closed recent. Could it be they disabled the hi e iq diagnostic module and that's disabled or had an effect on the digital bus connectors?0 -
I don’t know anything about the hive Eq module but it’s certainly not out of the question.0

Removing Boiler IQ (Hive IQ module) makes no difference sadly.
I can only get the Tado to work if I run it in R01 mode from 230v relay. There, it works brilliant. Can't figure this out. The old unit was working fine for so long.0 -
I would see if Tado support can help. If you download the Tado pro app you can check your system configuration, which might shed some light on it.0

Thanks Johnny. What's the best way to get support now? 😔 Always been a pain to et help.
I'll download the other app too0 -
Interesting that if you download the pro app, there's no guidelines for installing to a 29cdi. However if you look up the other models, the convention 40cdi, and it says it needs relay wiring. Why are tado so unhelpful 😂in the Install brochures it says Worcester Bosch should be Bus Connectors. But the pro app says relay? 🙄0

It depends on the Worcester Bosch model I think, Tado has had to reverse engineer a bus connection. But if yours was working before there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be now.0
