Can a wireless thermostat, be configured to run as just a wireless temp sensor?

If so, how?

  • Just leave it off the radiator valve altogether and activate it? It will throw a calibration error, but still work. Or just use a (dummy) valve, and unscrew the knob after calibration...
  • Im not talking about TRVs.

I want to know if I can use a Wireless Thermostat, that comes with a starter kit for example. As a wireless temperature sensor, to go in a room with a Tado TRV, to better measure the actual room temp.
  • Yes. In the app make sure the wireless thermostat and the Tado TRV are in the same virtual room in 'devices and settings' then click on the name of the virtual room and you will see there is an option to choose which of the devices is the measurement device for the room. Select the wireless thermostat and the TRV will slave to it.
  • Perfect! Thank you.

It's only £30 more for a complete wireless started kit, than it is for a Temperature Sensor.
So thinking I can sell the bridge and wireless receiver from each one.
