Will it work for me?

I have the following condensing boiler

Viessman Vitodens 100-W

Model Number B1KC-35

I would like to change my current Hive thermostat to that of a Tado Smart Thermostat.

I have the Viessman weather compensation module, but it has not been fitted due to not having a suitable north west position to locate it.

Should I fit the weather compensation module?

Has anyone experienced Tado Smart Thermostats and Radiator Thermostats?

Is Tado worth getting over my existing Hive Thermostat?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance

First of all, do you have a combi or system boiler (with hot water cylinder)?

Assuming it’s a combi, your hive system is relay only and isn’t capable of modulating the boiler output, so using a Tado eu wireless receiver or a wired thermostat would be a step up. I’m fairly certain viessman supports Opentherm, the digital protocol used to tell the boiler to modulate.

If you fit the weather compensation module you could install the Tado on a non modulating relay connection and just use it for geofencing. I wouldn’t bother with smart trvs in that case.

If you have a system boiler it’s probably easier to leave things as they are and just fit the weather compensation module.
  • Thanks,

    So I have a Combi.

I believe Viessman do support Opentherm.

Is the installation and the use of modulating as simple it (open therm) being in place and on by way of installing the Tado system?

I am planning installing this myself.

    Thanks

  • Yup, it’s very simple, two wires from the opentherm connections on the boiler to + and - on the Tado device, plus l and n. You might need to configure it for Opentherm but it will often do this itself if it sees an Opentherm connection.
