Worcester Bosch Greenstar Life 8000

I hope someone can help as Tado customer service seem incapable of providing a simple answer. I wish to switch from Hive to Tado as I understand there are additional benefits of using Tado since they’ve reintroduced modulation to UK models.

Can someone tell me which up to date wireless thermostat I need. Also, is it quite easy to install from a wiring perspective ? Many thanks

You need the eu wireless receiver or a smart thermostat wired to the boiler. It’s simple to install digital connections - just use the + and - connections from the Tado device to the appropriate connections on your boiler, plus l and n on the wireless receiver in some cases.

When you say Tado customer service can’t provide an answer, are they saying your boiler isn’t compatible with a digital connection? I know some Worcester Bosch models aren’t.
  • I provided all the boiler details and they just reply asking me the same question. Gave up in the end. So, I want to ditch the Hive which has the receiver wired near the boiler and wireless room stat. Assuming this is a similar connection. I’m asking after the article on Heat Geek.

Hives don’t support digital connections as far as I’m aware, so you would need to rewire from relay. That’s why you need to check whether Tado can connect to your boiler via a modulating protocol, either Opentherm or ebus.

Also if you have a system boiler (with hot water cylinder) you’re unlikely to be able to use a digital connection.
  • latest 2000/4000/8000 cannot communicant digitally via Todo despite it saying EBUS compatible

don't buy this and expect anything other than on/off relay https://uk.installers-shop.tado.com/products/wireless-smart-thermostat-starter-kit-v3-eu-version

  • Very interesting. So absolutely no weather comp and no modulation? I’ll stick to Hive then, unless anyone else tells me otherwise
  • Tado has weather compensation but if you can’t connect digitally, you might be better off just getting a weather compensation unit for the boiler.
  • I have an Ideal Logic system boiler which is wired to a Hive controler - see attached images

I am unclear which Tado starter Kit I need to buy to get Tado to replace Hive to control the system boiler. I think once I have the answer to this I should then be able to replace the radiator thermostats to Tado - but I beleiev I must first get the boiler side right?

I would appreciate any other helpful comments. May need an electrician to assist me with this but I want the right Tado kit so he can get straight to work

  • You need the wireless starter kit (uk version) so you can control hot water. Get that first then you can add trvs afterwards.
