Why does one particular radiator come on whichever room I try to heat?
Hi, I have a Wireless Thermostat and two radiator thermostats in my dining room. I also have radiator thermostats in our three bedrooms, the bathroom and the living room.
In the evening, I just want to heat my children's bedrooms, as we have a woodburner downstairs. Whilst I can heat the two bedrooms, one of the radiators (fitted with a radiator thermostat) in the dining room also comes on and stays on until we turn the two bedrooms off. After further testing, whichever room we try and independently heat, this radiator always comes on.
Is this something really simple that I am missing and how do I fix it?
Many thanks.

Check your Zone Controller settings?

I don’t have any zone controller settings or options. I’m using the wireless receiver and the WirelessTemperature Sensor.0

You definitely do. Look in rooms under settings. Your wireless thermo is presumably connected to a wireless receiver. That’s the zone controller.0

@CMA71 while you definitely do have zone controller options for each room as others have suggested... you're issue sounds more like the radiator thermostat in your dining room is unable to close the valve fully. This means any time your heating comes on that radiator is also getting a supply of hot water.
I would suggest remounting it and recalibrating it. While you've got the thermostat off I'd also confirm that the valve pin moves freely.1 -
Thanks for the responses. If it is calibrating ok and there is no error, could there still be an issue with the valve pin?0

@CMA71 if it was me I'd try removing the tado radiator thermostat and refitting an old TRV, and wind it right down to the frost protection setting (which essentially is closed). Turn your heating on and see if that radiator heats up.
If it does, then there's likely an issue with the valve itself. If it doesn't, then for some reason the tado thermostat is unable to close it all the way.0 -

@GrayDav4276 I can't see how that can be true, assuming what has been written in the original question is accurate.
It suggests there are 3 devices in the dining room (a wireless thermostat, and 2 radiator thermostats). Only one of these radiators is heating up unexpectedly when another room calls for heat.
The entire dining room would have to be set to independent would it not, not just a single device? Which would mean both radiators would heat up, and only if their schedule intended them to be open at that time?

@cbd20 This is true, provided the rooms are set up correctly. Sounds like there’s a possibility it’s not in the right room on the app or has been set up to be in its own room.
It could also be that the trv has lost connection with the bridge, so it’s worth taking it off and pairing it near the bridge.2 -

@GrayDav4276 @johnnyp78 fair point, well made. Have to admit it is an assumption on my part those 3 devices are in the same room, but as you point out that may not be true.1

Hi, yes checked a few times to make sure that the three devices are in the same TADO room, matching the physical room. I will test with an old trv first and report back.0
-
Ok, so I put one of the old manual trvs back on the radiator in question and the problem disappears. I.e. I can put it on 0 or frost protection and it stays off when I hear other rooms in the house.
Given that the TADO Radiator Thermostat says that it is calibrated ok, is connected to the wireless bridge ok, and has fresh batteries, where do I go from here?0 -
I think the only things left to do are trying a different Tado trv on there, and uninstalling and reinstalling the problematic Tado trv.1

Think I have sorted it. Tried putting the old TRV back on and fully opened/closed it a few times to see if that helped, it didn’t. So got some pliers and manipulated the valve pin, reseated the TADO radiator thermostat, and I think that has done the job.
Would have tried this earlier if it had reported a calibrating error!
Thanks for all your help though.0
