What do i need to get opentherm to work?

Hi, could someone please explain how i get opentherm to work on my baxi 836 combi boiler to work as I've just found out that the wireless v3+ starter kit in the uk don't include opentherm? I have read that the eu starter kit and possibly the eu Add-on / extender kit is opentherm compatible unlike the uk version? If so do i just need to buy the Add-on kit (combi type) like the one in this link which has the 1 button on the top?

https://uk.installers-shop.tado.com/products/add-on-wireless-receiver-for-combi-boilers

I assume the eu extender is the same as the eu starter kit hub and contains all the same digital connections?

If ive shown the incorrect item could someone please point me in the right direction please?

Thank you.

  • You need the eu wireless receiver or the wired thermostat, or you can buy an old extension kit from eBay or the like.

    This is definitely it https://installers-shop.tado.com/products/add-on-wireless-receiver-for-combi-boilers
  • It seems what you have shown me is the exact same item i have shown but in euros rather than in pounds. It seems you are unable to buy it through your link as theres no uk delivery option and i suspect thats why there's a separate uk store version of the same eu receiver as mine also sates eu plug etc.
  • Should be fine then, the UK version is marked ‘for and S and Y plan’.
  • For those who read this post and are wondering. Yes the one i ordered from the uk professional store is indeed the eu version which contains opentherm.

  • For what its worth I bought mine from the IE store, and it shipped from Germany...

  • Hi all i just had my baxi 836 combi boiler installed today but my installer was unable to get tado to work he wired it up via opentherm terminals and everything is pared etc but when i send a command using the wireless thermostat or by using the app on my phone the tado hub heating led lights up but pulses slowly and nothing happens on the boiler. The other 2 lights are solid green. Also the link cable on the boiler was removed.
  • When i set it up i used config code id d62 according to the manual.
  • Do you mean the config code for the Tado wireless receiver? The config code for Opentherm is d01. Does your boiler use opentherm or does it use ebus or something similar?
  • Yes the wireless receiver. The manual states for baxi i should use d62.
Bs-bus but at the top of the list its says various = D01 opentherm. So should i ignore the baxi id d62 and use the d01.
  • Ive also read some one else had the same exact issue and baxi 836 and had to get support for a firmware update.

  • Ive just changed to d01 as you said and the boiler is actually doing something now. And seems to be filling. Hopefully this is what was wrong and you are my savour, much appreciated.
  • If it’s working it’s all good - maybe it operates on both?
