Wired thermostats word, wireless do not
Hi Guys, if anyone can help it would be great. I have a vaillant ecotec618 boiler and moved into a house that have underfloor heating, radiators and hit water. I got the Tado wireless received and connected (instead if the old 2 channel programer), replaced all the underfloor heating thermostat with Tado connected ones and they are working fine 👍… i added tado radiator smart thermostats and another wireless thermostats.
The radiators thermostats are doing nothing, even when i call for more heat and i have specified the same wireless received to provide hear nothing happen.
The normal wireless thermosts will send the order and i can see the light going on on the received but no action from the boiler. Appreciate if anyone can help. Thanks

I assume you originally had at least one wired thermostat to control the radiator circuit. What have you done with this thermostat?

I have kept it untouched. Not connected0

Normally you would remove this thermostat and bridge the wires by connecting COM to NO. As a temporary measure you can turn the thermostat to maximum, which will make the circuit. If your room temperature is too high, greater than the maximum value, this will not work. When this is done the wireless receiver should start to control the boiler.

Ok thank you will try it tomorrow and see. Was reading other posts as well suggested getting an additional wired thermostat this way u treat it as a zone… does that work or better like you suggested linking the com to no. Thanks for your help appreciated0

Due to using a wireless receiver a wireless thermostat needs to replace the wired thermostat previously used for your radiators. You can mount the wireless thermostat in the same position, or move it to a better location.

So you will need the wireless thermostat to be the zone controller ? Or you can do without it ?

A wireless thermostat can’t be the zone controller, it needs to be something wired to the boiler, either a wired thermostat or extension kit. What is connected to the underfloor heating? I’m assuming it’s a wired thermostat? That’s what your wireless thermostats should be telling to call for heat. When you say you can see the light going in on the received, what equipment do you mean?
It’s possible that if your house is multizoned you’ll need another Tado device wired in to whatever controls each zone and goes into the boiler. Unless I’m misunderstanding something?0 -
Hi johnny, thanks for your comment. Here is the setup of the house, had a 2 channel programer one for boiler and one for hit water. Ground floor is under floor heated with 3 wired thermostats. Upper floors are radiator heated with one old analog thermostats.
Here is what i did, i got a Tado wireless receiver to replace the 2 channel programer and 3 wired rado thermostats to replace the thermostats of the underfloor heating all that is working well.
In the same packaged i had a wireless thermostat. This one is set up and added, when i turn it on though to call for heat, the wireless receiver will tune on the light on but the boiler does not start.
I have added as well wireless radiators thermostats and set it to call the main receiver for heat. This one does not even turn the light on the receiver on. Hope that makes sense and appreciate the help0 -
This might be an obvious question, but have you set the wireless receiver to be the zone controller for the trvs?0

Hi there yes i did. Could be the range ? I mean i can see them on the app but they are not sending the command to the receiver. Could that be the issue ? Cause there is one of them that started to work today after your advise to bypass the manual thermostat and connect the wires. But only one is working now, could it be the range of the receiver ? And if it is, is there a solution ?
Thanks0 -
See if you can get a response from the trv by clicking on ‘blink display’ in devices in the app. If nothing happens then it’s either low on battery or out of range. As the wireless thermostat also can’t call for heat I think it’s more likely to be a wiring issue but can’t say for sure.0

Hey @johnnyp78 and @GrilledCheese2 i just wanted to say thank you for your help. It seams to be sorted now, i think the advice of ensuring that the wiring is shorted to bypass the manual thermostat was key. I think the others one was not giving order cause tado have a safety mechanism that does not allow too many sudden changes and my boiler had a timer to protect multiple frequent changes. The combination of this and the impatient me wanted to test the system did not work well.
Thank you both though for jumping to help and hope the above info would help someone0
