Frustrated with my Tado setup, numerous issues

Hey guys, I came here looking for advice for a few annoyances I've started having with my Tado system and fallen into a rabbit hole because it seems that these are fairly widely reported and nobody seems to get anywhere with Tado themselves.

I don't mind finding technical issues with products as long as the company behind them even appears to be helpful , the lack or and sometimes even gaslight responses is making me consider buying a different system.

First things first. I have a wireless thermostat/controller, bridge and now one TRV for a room that needed its own control. This was two rooms and TRVs until recently when one decided to stop controlling anything at all.

So my number one, biggest gripe is with the dumb nature of this supposed 'smart' thermostat. By dumb I mean that these last few weeks it's either heating on constantly and pushing both devices above the set temperature by a degree or more. Or the flipside that one device gets up to temperature, nice and cosy but then shuts the heating off with the other not up to temp - usually it's the main stat that happens to.

The second issue I'm having is the whistling TRVs I've seen reported here. Suddenly my TRVs started making high pitch whistling or water rushing noises, no air in the system but directly linked to the Tado trv, if I adjust the temp it stops for a period.

I do wish that this system had the option to be a little more 'open' in its programming. Things like not being able to set my maximum boiler flow temp that my old system could manage, being able to setup seasonal profiles etc all seem reasonable for a smart controller to manage.

I also cannot understand for the life of me why Tado decides what hot and cold is in my home, why is this not a temperature a user can set to their own preference, again with granularity so day and night can be different.

20c is warm for us during the day, it's t-shirt in the house temperature for me and I want my thermostat app to not keep telling me to turn up the heating , similarly we set the house to 18.5 overnight. It's a minor gripe but still valid. This should be user configurable.

But on the main two gripes, is there anything you can suggest or is it a case of contact Tado support until I am either frustrated and buy an alternative or something changes?

Comments

  • You can message Tado technical support to get them to set the max flow temperature for your boiler.

I've done that with my system and have them set it to 50 deg C.

  • Thanks, does anyone know if Tado support can increase the hysterisis on the heating being called up when temperatures have been hit.

I am assuming that the thermostat or extension isn't smart and that it's Tado controlled (not what I expected when I bought it though if I'm honest)
