Upgrading from V2 wired to V3+

I currently have the V2 thermostat wired to my boiler and TRVs on every radiator in the house except in the bathroom. I am upgrading, largely for the HomeKit integration, to the V3+ wireless starter kit.

I’m now wondering whether it is possible to:

  • swap the bridge from the old one to the V3
  • leave the V2 Smart Thermostat in place,
  • install the new wireless Smart Thermostat in my daughter’s room, where the existing TRV often gives readings higher than for much of the rest of that room.

If this method would work, it would save me the hassle of changing the wiring at the boiler, for which I would need to turn the power off.

  • Hi, did you get an answer to this in the end? I’m considering this too and was also concerned about losing my free geofencing
  • No, I never got any reply! I just got on with it as described above and everything has been fine. The free geofencing is still working.
  • The particular benefit of upgrading has been that I can now use HomeKit so that my daughter’s room is only heated when she’s at home and, similarly, if my wife and I are away then our own bedroom is not heated.
