Load compensation UK

Hello, I have a straightforward question regarding load compensation and boiler compatibility. After having to return Drayton Wiser thermostat because my boiler cannot support OpenTherm (Boiler is Vaillant ecoTec pro 28 and if I add OpenTherm to it it will void the warranty) I'm considering Tado. The most important thing is load compensation and I need to make sure that the wireless Tado V3+ UK version will support this. My boiler has eBUS protocol. If the answer is yes, will I need anything that is not included in the starter kit to make this work? Thank you in advance. It has been great learning from all of you.

Not being a UK resident, I had to look this up. What 'Load compensation' means in this context. From what I found, it simply means that the thermostat can modulate its heat request. tado most certainly does that with eBus (and Opentherm, and…).

  • @Rob Is this for you?

  • Thanks for your reply! I'm only asking because a couple of years ago Tado removed this feature from their devices sold in the UK and wanted to make sure that it's back on their wireless V3+.

Okay, that's a different story. We support this feature on the tado devices that are compatible with relevant interfaces like Opentherm and eBus.

The wireless receiver we offer specific to the UK market, does not support this as the UK market in general (there are obvious exceptions) wants a dual relay device that is easy to set up, with test buttons for both relays. The UK market does not care about digital interfaces. So we delivered.

Our other markets don't care about a relay for domestic hot water, but do care about digital interfaces. So, we offer a different wireless receiver for the rest of the world, with bus support and without the second relay.

If you want to control eBus in the UK via tado, you have to pick one of these three options:

    • Wire a V3+ Smart Thermostat to your boiler. Just the regular wired one that is available in the UK.
    • Source a rest of the world Wireless Receiver V3+ (serial number starting with BR)
    • Source an older tado Extension Kit, which we produced until 2020 or so, which we also offered in the UK (serial BU).

We don't support eBus in any market with tado X, with the exception of eBus boilers with an Opentherm converter. tado X only supports Opentherm (and relay) for boilers. For the UK and tado X, we also have a special wireless receiver. UK: serial starts with TP. Rest of the world: serial starts with TR.
